Udupi: 'Nirantar Natakotsav' receives good response

Udupi, Feb 2: The seven-day multilingual 'Nirantar Natakotsava' organized by Nirantar Udyavar is attracting a huge number of drama lovers to Udyavar. The drama festival began from January 30.

Fr Stany B Lobo, parish priest of Udyavar church inaugurated the drama festival. Wishing great success he said, “Through dramas, the audience will be receiving good values. Dramas can deliver a good message to the larger audience. It is a strong medium."

Jayakar Shetty Indrali, chief manager Badagubettu credit co-operative bank said, “It is not an easy task to organize a seven-day drama festival. The organizers strive really hard to give a good message through dramas. Nirantar has taken this challenge which is really a commendable step."

Jayakar Shetty Indrali was honoured on the occasion for being conferred with 'Sahakar Ratna' award.

Nagesh Kumar Udyavar, director, Lawrence Dias, vice president parish pastoral committee, Roshan Crasta, president Nirantar Udyavar, Oliviera Mathias, secretary and Ronald D'Souza, convener were present on the occasion. Michel D’Souza compered the programme.

On the first day of the drama festival, Tulu drama 'Hey Ram' by Bhoomigeetha Samskruthika Vedike Patla directed by Santhosh Nayak Patla was performed.

The second day of the drama festival was inaugurated by Radhakrishna Shriyan, president Udyavar gram panchayat. Addressing the gathering, he said, “Dramas have now gained popularity in this region through the continuous efforts of Nirantar Udyavara organization. By presenting plays in different languages, the organization is doing the work of giving priority to different languages."

Anil D’Sa Shankarpur, president Parichaya and Kalaradhan Shankerpura, Lion Wilfred Pinto, president Lions Club Bantakal BC Road, Ganesh Rao Elluru, director, Ronald D'Souza, convener, Roshan Crasta, president Nirantar Udyavar, and Oliviera Mathias, secretary were present. Roshan D’Souza compered the programme.

Kalaradhan Shankerpura troupe performed 'Kamil Kalwar' directed by Ganesh Rao Yellur in Konkani. The drama was sponsored by Veronica Pinto and children Pamboor in memory of the late Lewis Pinto.  

The Nirantar Natakotsav is being organized for the fifth year. The association was founded by Udyavrities Steevan Colaco and Michel D'Souza who wanted to create something new and unique in the Konkani art field. As there were less opportunities for the people of Udupi to witness Konkani cultural programmes in their hometowns, Nirantar Udyavar was established to bridge the gap.

On February 2, St Aloysius Ranga Adhyayana Kendra will be performing 'Cant Pay Won't Pay' , an English drama directed by Sweedal.

On February 3, St Aloysius Ranga Adhyayana Kendra will be performing”Barbareeka” directed by Christi.

On February 4, Astitva Magaluru will be performing Konkani drama “Adanv ani Yeven Ughadle Dole Rachnara ata tunch pole' directed by Christi.

On the last day of the drama festival on February 5, Astitva Mangaluru will perform Konkani drama 'Emmanvsu' directed by Christi.
