Mangaluru: Catholic Sabha Milagres celebrates silver jubilee year closing ceremony

Mangaluru, Jan 31: Catholic Sabha, Milagres unit which completed 25 years, organised silver jubilee year closing ceremony on Sunday, January 29 with a thanksgiving Mass at 5 pm in Milagres Church followed by a get together programme at Milagres College auditorium.

The president John B Monteiro in his welcome address said, "Catholic Sabha Milagres unit that was started in the year 1997 has grown and developed like a beautiful structure with the moral support of Parish priests who have laid spiritual foundation, past presidents and office bearers who have been the pillars, as well as the life members who have supported as strong walls. Catholic Sabha, Milagres should grow to greater heights and it is the responsibility of all the members to take care of the organisation."

Secretary Diana D'Souza presented the service activities report which included blood donation camp etc. On this occasion, the office bearers contributed for financial help to a needy patient undergoing kidney dialysis.

Recognising and honouring five of the senior members who had rendered dedicated service to the organization added glory to the programme. The recipients were Treeza Pinto, Nora Pinto, Prem Tellis, Cecilia D'Souza and Sophia Dias. The honour included shawl, flowers and a memento.

Fr Ivan D'Souza, assistant parish priest, Milagres Church presided over the programme and honoured the recipients who were introduced by immediate past president Philomena Ferrao.

In his message Fr Ivan said, "Our service to others should be selfless not for self which includes sacrifice that leads to unity."

Milagres Church vice president Sylvester Mascarenhas and secretary Diana D'Souza were the guests of honour. They were introduced to the gathering by the John B Monteiro and were also honoured.

In his speech, Sylvester Mascarenhas stressed on the importance of service to humanity and growing together with spirit of love. He also shared his experience as an ex-employee of mazgon dock limited, an undertaking under the ministry of defence production.

Lavina S Monteiro the secretary to Rachana Catholic Chamber of Commerce & Industry Mangaluru was the chief guest and was introduced by Diana D'Souza. Addressing the gathering Lavina Monteiro said, "Our service should be filled with humbleness." She complemented all the members of catholic sabha for leading it to the present progress and growth. She called on to put all our efforts to continue the service to humanity tirelessly and become the role models to others.

Fr Ivan Dsouza, Catholic Sabha vice president Avina D'Souza, treasurer Ronald D'Souza and other members joined in Honouring the chief guest as well as conveyed her Birthday wishes.

Milagres Church sacrestian Walter Nazareth was felicitated for his continuous service to Catholic Sabha.

Former presidents Nigel Pereira, Flora Castelino, Honora Pereira and Philomena Ferrao were present and were felicitated on the occasion of Silver Jubilee.

The prayer song was led by Avina D'Souza and group. There was skit and dance by Lona Pinto and Molly D'Souza. The grace before meals were led by Rita Pinto. Shanti Dias assisted in stage arrangements.

Sleema Pinto compered the programme beautifully. Finally the programme ended with baila songs the so-called Maando by Jude Fernandes, Sylvia Fernandes, Flourine, Noreen, Shallet and others. Lona Pinto proposed the vote of thanks.
