Riyadh: UTT Emerge Champions of JF-Suhana Travels Super Cup Cricket 2011

Riyadh, May 24: JF-Suhana Travels Super Cup-2011 (6 Overs knock-out Cricket Tournament) was organized by the Jam'iyyatul Falah (JF) Riyadh Unit, and sponsored by Suhana Travels. The tournament was held at Yarmuk Area, near MVPI, Riyadh. In all 24 teams from India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka took part in this prestigious tournament, with the matches being held every Friday morning during the said period. Teams were divided into 2 groups, preliminary rounds and quarter final matches were played. The semi finals and final match were played as a closing ceremony of the Tournament.

The teams that qualified for the semi finals were: Mangalore Kings, Pak Fighters, UTT and SCFC. The first semi final was played between Mangalore Kings and Pak Fighters. Mangalore Kings won the toss and elected to field. Pak Fighter made 65 runs in allotted 6 overs (Saeed – 28, Sultan 31 n.o. were the scorer for Pak Fighters). In reply Mangalore Kings won the match in 4.4 overs (Shamshu – 23, Imran 35 n.o. where the main scorer for Mangalore Kings).

The second semi final was played between UTT and SCFC. UTT won the toss and elected to Bat. Magnificent batting performance from Shakir Khan of UTT who made 115 n.o. in just 21 balls posted a massive total of 128 runs in 6 overs for SCFC. SCFC had no reply to that massive total and managed to score only 62 runs (Yoga 39 was the only scorer in SCFC). UTT won the match.

Final was played between Mangalore Kings and UTT. Mangalore Kings won the toss and elected to Bat first. Mangalore Kings scored 74 runs in allotted 6 overs. Munna – 31 runs was the main scorer from Mangalore Kings. Waqas took 3 wickets and Gul Mastan took 2 wicket from UTT to restrict Mangalore Kings to post a huge total. The chase was again lead by Shakir Khan who scored 56 runs and took the match away from Mangalore Kings and reached their target. UTT clinched the JF-Suhana Travels Super Cup beating Mangalore Kings by 5 wickets in a nail baiting finish on the final day of the tournament.

The fantastic performance given by the players of both teams indeed proved to be an eyeful and thoroughly enthralled the cricket loving fans and viewers in the ground.

Soon after the completion of final match, there was Prize Distribution Ceremony hosted by Parvez Ali, Ex-President, JF Riyadh. In addition to the JF Committee Members, the other eminent personalities who came as guests to witness the final match were Ramesh Shetty, Marketing Manager, OTE, Riyadh, Abdul Gafoor, Stop Coffee Shop, Mohammed Ilyas Hussain, Manager Basem International, Abu Mohammed, Manager of MFC. All of them graced the function with their presence and added color to the event.

The following players and teams received Glittering Trophies from JF for their outstanding performances:

Man of the Match trophies awarded for all the players who performed well throughout the tournament. Shakir Khan of UTT (Best Batsman & Player of the Tournament), Imran of Mangalore Kings (Best Performance of the Tournament), Suhana (Best Disciplined Team), PCC (Best Uniformed Team). Runners-up trophy was awarded to Yunus of Mangalore Kings and winner of the tournament trophy was awarded to Shahid of UTT The umpires who officiated the tourney were mainly Rafiq, Ayaz, Akhtar Shaikh, Bhaskar Nawaz, Sherief and Fayaz. And the whole tournament was managed by Ayaz and
his enthusiastic team, who continuously coordinated with all the participating teams and organizing committee by involving all their extreme efforts in completion of this grand tournament.

Stop Coffee Shop served breakfast and tea on the final day for all the teams and spectators on the ground, several other individual backers respectively along-with all contributed for the tournament to make the event a grand success.

The main sponsors for this tournament were: Suhana Travels, Eastern Arabia and some philanthropic individuals.

Jamiyyatul Falah, Riyadh has been actively organizing various activities like Cricket Tournament, Get-Together, Parenting and Career Guidance Programmes through which they are not only trying to educate and entertain the audience but also bringing the people of Mangalore and other regions together. The JF cricket tournament is one of the favorite events as it keeps alive the sporting spirit and relieves the pressures of being away from home. In India JF is involved in programmes for uplifting the downtrodden through education.
