Five Get Life Sentence for Murder in Yavatmal


Yavatmal, May 23 (PTI) The district court here has sentenced five persons to life sentence for the June 2007 murder of Prashant alias Gattya Dubey, a member of Yavatmal Municipal Council.

Judge B A Sheikh convicted the main accused Pravin Divate (36) and his four accomplices: Ammu Sheikh Amir (31), Deepak Meshram (26), Raghu Nakshine (26) and Vickey Kannake (27), by the ruling yesterday.

The judge also imposed fine of Rs 1,000 each on them.

Mohammad Tarique, Vikas Zavanjal and Jagadish Kadu were acquitted for lack of evidence.

Dubey was attacked with sharp weapons on June 3, 2007 in front of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad office here by eight-ten assailants while he was riding a two-wheeler. He was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Prosecution's case was that the murder was a fall-out of a previous hostility between the two warring groups in the city.
