Kuwait: D K Brothers Emerge Champs at KMWA Volleyball Tourney

Kuwait, May 16: Karnataka Muslim Welfare Association (KMWA), Kuwait organized a State level Volleyball tournament  ‘KMWA Championship Cup-2011’ at Indian Community School, Khaitan playground here, recently. D K Brothers won the challenging championship.

The tournament was inaugurated by Madhu P Nair, Charge d’affaires, Indian Embassy Kuwait  at 4.30 pm.  Leaders of various  Associations as well as prominent NRI personalities of Kuwait were present  during the occasion. Nair applauded the efforts of KMWA for organizing various activities to foaster friendship and appreciation among fellow Indians, particularly from Karnataka state.  Charge d’affaires took the guard of honour for the first match between Kunjal Friends versus Salmiya Friends-C Teams.

10 Teams and also audience  from different parts of Karnataka witnessed the tournament.

The Tournament was conducted in the knockout format divided into 2 pools, pool A & B  with 5 teams in each pool.  2 teams of each pool proceeded to the semifinals. As per the agreed format the winners of Team 3 & 4 had to play with team 5.  Extraordinary  talents displayed by the  teams kept everyone engrossed till the end of the event.  The semifinal matches were held  between Salmiya B versus Kunjal Friends and Abbasiya Friends versus D K Brothers teams.

The final match between Kunjal Friends versus D K Brothers reached its climax with a remarkable professional display of the talents by the shooters, defenders and all-rounders from both the teams.  Finally, D K Brothers won the challenging KMWA Championship Cup-2011 with 3-2 sets in a close contested nail biting finish. 

The event came to an end with the prize distribution ceremony. KMWA Management Committee distributed the trophies to all the winners. Shamsuddin was awarded as the best Defending Player by B S Sharafuddin, ex president and advisory committee member of KMWA, Abdul Samad was awarded as the best Offender by Fayaz Shaikh cooridinator of the event . Abdul Majeed was awarded as the Best All Rounder by Mohammad Salar, a prominent businessman of Kuwait .

Winners Trophy, Cash Prize and Gold Medals were awarded to the D K Brothers by Hasan Yusuf, president KMWA,  Runners Up Trophy, Cash Prize and Silver medals were awarded to Kunjal Friends by Mohammed Salar, advisory committee member of KMWA.

KMWA President  has thanked the Co-Sponsors City Clinic and Ajay George. Cool Drinks was served throughout the  matches by Ibrahim Pinto, Haj & Umrah Services.  The President also thanked S M Basheer for his live commentaries over the mike and also Azeem Pasha for recordings the scores.

Match Referees Alex Mathew and Rahat Jabbar Ali were felicitated with mementos by Humayun Pasha from Boubyan Bank (Advisory  Committee Member) for their contributions.

KMWA   has organized several Educational, social and  cultural events in the past. The objective of  organizing this Volley ball tournament is to foaster friendship and appreciation.  Sport being a best communication and entertainment tool, basically helps to improve our feeling of togetherness, discipline, health consciousness, competition, team work and the acceptance of success and failure in life.

Jaleel Ahmed and Fayaz Shaikh were joint coordinators of the event.
