Hindu word origin row: Cong leader Satish Jarkiholi apologises

Belagavi, Nov 9 (IANS): Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee Secretary Satish Jarkiholi on Wednesday apologised for his comments on the origin of the word 'Hindu'.

"One of my statements has turned into a controversy. It has been distorted and spread. I am taking back my statement so that it should not create confusion among people. I apologise if it has caused pain to anyone," Jarkiholi stated in his letter written to Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

"I have mentioned that Hindu word came from the Persian language while giving a speech on Oct 6. How did it come to India? I have also stated that in many books it is quoted that the meaning of the word Hindu is dirty. And, I have also pressed for a debate in this regard," Jarkiholi stated.

"My speech was based on research in Wikipedia, books, dictionaries and writings of historians. The vested interest forces are trying to project me as an anti-Hindu. There is a well planned conspiracy to defame and cause harm to me. I request CM Bommai to conduct an inquiry against people who are creating trouble and the above quoted facts," he said.

Now where are those who blindly supported him? Wikipedia is being fed and updated by vested interests. There was no Wikipedia or Google when we studied history. We were taught the word Hindu originated from Sindh or Sindhu which was coined by the Greeks when Alexander invaded both Persia and northern India around 300 BC.

Can't believe sanathani followers still call themselves with a Persian word. What he said is 100% factual. We are the land of Dravidians, the adivasi communities. The Aryans aka proto Eurasian invaders came here and gave us names which we funnily think is our age old name now even though that word is never found in old scriptures. :/

For sure this Jarkiholi is on the BJP payroll. The huge damage is already done by scoring a massive 'self goal'. Had RaGA or Khagre expelled him from the party immeidately, the party would have won everyones hearts . Now its too late,. The only option left is Sit back and blame EVMs for defeat.

Yes you are right to some extent. See congress legislators leaving and joining BJP/AAP in Gujarath. So most of the leaders in congress are not loyal but are available for sale. So why should we support a party which has no capable leadership to keep its party people under control. How do we expect such party to rule our country safe and prosperously. Among the lot better choice is BJP excepting their hindutva ideology which is only for gaining votes.

You are fortunate that you are living in Tolerant Hindustan and talked of the word HINDU being of Persian nature and having some bad meaning whatever. If it were against any other peace loving minority, you would have been stripped of everything and buried without address by now here only. Forget other countries where they are in majority. Got it Satisha?? Why didn't you go for your leader's Bharat Jodo Yaatra? To sit here and Thodo??
