Mumbai: Nimbalkar Murder Trial Set to Begin Next Month


Mumbai, May 11 (PTI) Five years after the murder of Congress leader Pawanraje Nimbalkar, the trial against NCP leader Padam Singh Patil and others is set to begin at Alibag Sessions Court in neighbouring Raigad district.

The court recently framed charges against the accused.

Patil was arrested by the CBI on June 6, 2009 for his alleged role in the murder of Pawanraje Nimbalkar and his driver, Samad Kazi.

The two were found shot dead inside Nimbalkar's car on the Mumbai-Pune Express highway, near Kalamboli, on June 3, 2006.

Other accused include Latur-based businessman Satish Mandade, corporator Mohan Shukl, Parasmal Jain, former state excise inspector Shashikant Kulkarni, Bahujan Samaj Party worker Kailash Yadav, alleged shooters Dinesh Tiwari, Pintu Singh and Chote Pandey.

"Trial is likely to begin next month", said CBI sources.
