Obama thanks Amir of Kuwait for Support in Libya

Washington, May 7 (PTI) US President Barack Obama has called up the Amir of Kuwait and thanked him for his "generous pledge of assistance" to the Libyan opposition.

"The President thanked the Amir for Kuwait's generous pledge of assistance to the Transitional National Council of Libya and stressed the importance of such financial support to the opposition given their urgent needs," the White House said in a statement.

"Both leaders renewed their pledge to build on the historic ties between the United States and Kuwait," the statement said.

"The President conveyed condolences on the passing of Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber Al-Sabah?s brother, Sheikh Khalid Al-Sabah, and thanked the Amir for Kuwait's steadfast support to US troops," the White House said.
