HC Upholds 12-year Sentence Awarded to Rapist Constable

Mumbai, May 6 (PTI) The Bombay High Court today upheld the 12-year sentence awarded to former police constable Sunil More accused of raping a minor girl six years ago.

A division bench of Justices P V Hardas and M N Gilani dismissed More's appeal challenging a trial court's conviction against him on rape charges.

"More's appeal is dismissed. We are conforming the 12-year sentence awarded to him," Justice Hardas remarked.

The court also dismissed an appeal filed by the state government seeking enhancement of the sentence.

On April 27, 2005, More, in an inebriated state, had raped a minor girl inside the Marine Drive police chowki in South Mumbai.

A year later, a sessions court convicted him and sentenced him to 12 years imprisonment.
