Dubai: St Mary’s Goan Community Celebrates Annual Easter Ball – 2011

Dubai, May 3: St Mary’s Goan Community Dubai celebrated its seventh annual Easter Ball 2011 on Thursday April 28 at Dhow Palace Hotel, Bur Dubai.

Playing for the nite was Dubai’s popular dance band, ‘Black Lace’, favourite DJ, Nevz, with the best of DJ Music.

The ‘Easter Ball 2011’ was packed to capacity with over 500 people (both adults and kids) attending the event at the five-star Dhow Palace Hotel in Bur Dubai.

Francis Xavier Xaxa, consul, community affairs, the consulate general of India in Dubai, was the chief guest for the event. He was accompanied by his wife, Maria Xaxa.



Cajetan Coelho, president of the SMGCD, and the chief guest, Francis Xavier Xaxa, addressed the gathering.  The chief guest was felicitated by the president of the SMGCD.

The novelty raffle with 22 prizes with Jet Airways and Air India return tickets as the top two prizes was held on the occasion.

Franck Gonsalves and Shamika Andrade were selected as the ‘Easter King 2011’ and ‘Easter Queen 2011’, respectively. The runner-up spots of ‘Easter King 2011’ and ‘Easter Queen 2011’ went to Alingham Cardozo and Agnela D’Silva.

The Easter King 2011 and Easter Queen 2011 were crowned by last year’s Easter Queen, Lizann Aphonso, while the runners up were felicitated by Ralph D’Mello, MD of Marcon.

Both the Easter King and Queen received Watermen Pens sponsored by Sally’s Traditional Goan Delicacies, hampers from SAPIL, Al Sharq Al Aqssa, and Al Marai as gifts for winning the contest.

The Easter King and Queen contest was adjudged by Joseph Dias, Ignatius Alexender of Sapil,  Lizann Aphonso ( Easter Queen 2010 ), and Nancy Periera of Nancy’s Haven.

The Easter Ball was anchored by mood setters, Simon Varella and Joaquim Fernandes, who kept the crowd on their feet right until the wee hours.

Lots of spot prizes, which included dinner courtesies and other gifts, were given away right from the beginning till the end of the event. The other prizes for the evening included two lucky entry tickets (adults and children), and one prize for the lucky data chit.
