Chikkaballapur woman elopes with lover from different caste - Parents, brother end life

Chikkaballapur, Oct 4 (IANS): In a shocking case, parents and brother of a woman ended their lives after she eloped with a man belonging to another caste in the Handiganala village of Karnataka's Chikkaballapur district.

The deceased have been identified as Sriramappa (63), Sarojamma (60) and Manoj (24). The incident came to light on Tuesday. The parents had lodged a missing complaint on Monday with the Sidlaghatta Rural police station.

According to police, the woman, Archana, was in love with Narayanaswamy, who belonged to another caste and was suspected to have eloped from her house to marry him.

The deceased father had left a death note before committing suicide. He had stated that his daughter was the reason for his death and further wrote that his daughter should not get anything from his property.

The three family members committed suicide when elder son Ranjith was asleep. The police also found a message sent by the deceased Manoj to his sister.

He had pleaded with his sister to come back before 11 p.m. on Monday. He also said that due to her decision the entire family was suffering and if she did not return before 11 p.m., she would not see her family members alive.

Manoj had also stated that they have already brought tablets and all would consume them and end their lives after 11 p.m. The police have taken up further investigation.

Crazy... What is the use of their property when they themselves are not alive? Will the Law say that family members committed suicide & you won't get property share? Stupidity or too much innocents, God knows...

If you read the news then you can see that eldest son Ranjith is still alive. News says he was asleep while others committed suicide. Fathers letter said not to give any property share to his daughter so this means now all property should be given to Ranjith. As i said there is something fishy here. Need a proper investigation.

This is a great. Needless tragedy .. .. Caste .. language etc etc are deep in Indian psyche .. IN GENERAL .. vast majority...There are actually small differences in day to day living ..across communities...income levels .. education .. looks etc .. ...Yet ..Within these communities having alliances are an impossible proposition..unless they belong to their own ... ..lThe USA ... In the Declaration of Independence.. has .in the constitution....incorporated ......IN PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS.......As one of the most important for the citizens .of the USA .... Here In India individual needs and happiness is not many a times of priority ..

Something not right. 3 members of a family would not commit suicide for such a silly reason that too a young brother who is only 24 year old. Father wrote that his daughter should not get any property. Elder brother was sleeping while other 3 members committed suicide. Just don't get it.

May seem silly to you, but the caste system is so ingrained among many. Even the so called educated people follow this inhuman system.

Ronald Mangalore,I too am of same thinking.Death note of father should be investigated if this is really his writing ,or from survivor ?He was sleeping ?Brought tablets previously ?Who brought it and all three drank or were given to drink?Simply because girl went with different caste boy?Kindly confirm it she went or had to disappear?Looks mysterious .Because of property some dare to do anything.Noone knows where girl is?Or really eloped? The only brother survived is bit suspicious.

Foolish, cowardly act to end their lives ! May be the family members were deeply united and could not bear the shock. How Archana would react to the situation is another mystery. Hope she is mstured to livewithe situation with man she loved and settled.
