Bengaluru: Rs 100 for bus pooja - KSRTC staff disappointed, officials defend decision

Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru (MS)

Bengaluru, Oct 4: Drivers and conductors of KSRTC buses are disappointed on the auspicious occasion of Ayudha Pooja as the management has given only Rs 100 to decorate each bus with flowers.

A distraught BMTC bus driver said, “The price of flower and fruits has touched sky in the market. One lemon is costing Rs 10. For the garland itself at least Rs 300 to 400 is required. For other items like plantain, ash gourd another Rs 200 to 300 is required. Rs 100 will not fetch even a hand length of flower. We do not ask for thousands of rupees. At least amount required for minimum decoration of the bus should be given.”

In KSRTC depots too, Rs 10,000 is given for 100 buses. KSRTC officials say “Buses will be offered pooja together. Except Bengaluru, the price of flowers is not much. Rs 100 is more than enough.”

BMTC drivers, however, are decorating their buses in a grand manner at Jayanagara, Banashankari and Rajarajeshwari depots.

Out of Rs.100/- it is enough only Rs.20 is spent for flowers and the remaining be utilized for cleaning the vehicle. Let the cleaners earn something extra on this auspicious occasion.

Good practice... symbolic pooja with 100 Rs flower for all the buses is fine too. It is loss making company anyway. They need salary on time or thousands of rupees waste on flowers and so on?

Ronald, KSRTC is a state run enterprise that is meant for delivering transportation services to genral public. There is no profit or loss in it. It's meant to serve public without raising such question. I do agree with your rest of the sentiments.

KSRTC is government property, drivers aren't dutybound to do pooja of something that isn't theirs own. You do pooja at home and come to work

We can not expect organization to fund religious activities... It is good that they recognized the spirit and contributed from their end... It is for the employees to pool in as per their capacities... Even singing and clapping loudly to God is enough an appeal and no need of crackers or garlands... We must appreciate the new CEO for starting a new trend in KSRTC after 6 decades to pay all employees on 1st of every month...

people who are in higher positions eat up all the money..most of the ksrtc buses run on worn tires, not maintained properly...so much so in kuntikan depot, even the workers ask bribe from driver and conductors if they have to repair their bus quickly...totally corrupt country and state..only solution non blue j pigs govt soon.

why doing pooja?? their personal belief they should leave at their home or at religious places. this is what hypocrites used to say. this is government vehicle & not their private property. even inside police station they make pooja, but if someone offfer namaz, then these people come with media and godi media. in INDIA now there is no equality . we got freedom from british & not from these sanghis.

Pramod, Udupi: Saar: I am a “pakka” Hindu, born , raised, educated, worked in Hindustan! But I wholeheartedly believe that this country also belong to citizens who are- Hindus, Jains, Buddhist’s, Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Parsees, Jews, Agnostics, atheists etc. ! So would you agree then, agree to butcher a buffalo in or a goat instead of flowers to decorate a bus ? After all this custom was practised years ago when I was young!😬?
