Qatar Donates $100 mn to Quake-hit Japan

Doha, April 29 (IANS) Qatar would donate $100 million to Japan to help in the country's reconstruction after the devastating earthquake in March, a media report said.

A magnitude-9 quake and ensuing tsunami struck Japan's northeastern coastal region March 11. Over 11,620 people have been confirmed dead while nearly 16,464 are still missing.

Citing the official Qatar News Agency, Xinhua reported that Qatar would also supply four million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Japan in the next 12 months.

Qatar, the world's top LNG producer, is a major supplier of Japan's gas imports.
