Bantwal, Sep 27: The auto rickshaw drivers visited district in-charge minister V Sunil Kumar and requested him to exempt them from payment of Rs 600 for stickers during the issue of vehicle fitness certificates at the Bantwal RTO office.

Minister Sunil Kumar said that Sriramulu, the state minister of transport had already spoken to the officials concerned for exemption. The minister later contacted the officers concerned in the RTO office and directed them to issue the vehicle FC without burdening the auto drivers.

The drivers explained to the minister that the charges were being collected only at the Bantwal RTO office. “RTO offices at Udupi, Mangaluru and Puttur have said that stickers are not mandatory. Bantwal RTO office says that the department commissioner has ordered the collection of amount.”
