Ajman: Gulf Medical University Hosts Annual Sports Festival – 2011

Ajman, Apr 26: A weeklong Annual Sports Festival was hosted by Gulf Medical University, Ajman.  21 leading colleges and university in the U.A.E. participated in the grand event which began on the 13th of April, 2011.  All the participants vying for the coveted trophies exhibited high standards of sportsmanship while participating in the various tournaments.

Fifty trophies were awarded to the winners on the concluding day of the sports competition.  The Chief Guest  His Excellency Hamad Tarim Al Shamsi, Director-Ajman Medical Zone and  Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Hospital and Guest of Honor Prof. Gita Ashok Raj, Provost of Gulf Medical University, Ajman gave away the prizes to various winners.   The Deans and Directors of various colleges and universities were present among the distinguished guests.

The results of the various sports events held at GMU campus are as follows :

Futsal (Football) – Boys

• Winner  - University of Sharjah
• Runner up  - Canadian University of Dubai

Futsal (Football) – Girls

• Winner  - Gulf Medical University, Ajman
• Runner up - Gulf College of Allied Health Sciences, Ajman

Basketball – Boys

• Winner   - University of Wollongong, Dubai
• Runner up - BITS Pilani, Dubai

Basketball – Girls

• Winner  - MAHE Manipal, Dubai
• Runner up - Gulf Medical College, Ajman

Tennis – Boys 

• Winner   - American University of Sharjah
• Runner up - BITS Pilani, Dubai

Table Tennis – Boys

• Winner   - Preston University, Ajman
• Runner up - Skyline University, Sharjah

Table Tennis – Girls
• Winner  - MAHE Manipal University, Dubai
• Runner up - University of Wollongong, Dubai

Throw Ball – Girls
• Winner  - University of Wollongong
• Runner up - BITS Pilani, Dubai

Squash – Boys
• Winner  - Gulf Medical College, Ajman
• Runner up - BITS Pilani, Dubai

Badminton – Boys
• Winner   - BITS Pilani, Dubai
• Runner up - American University, Sharjah

Badminton – Girls

• Runner up - MAHE Manipal University, Dubai

Keeping in view of the enthusiasm and the true sportsman spirit generated amongst the students and the organizers during the Annual Sports Festival-2011, Gulf Medical University, Ajman plans to extend the duration of the sports festival to two weeks and include more colleges and universities in the U.A.E. to participate in the GMU Annual Sports Festival in the future.
