Mangaluru, Sep 26: Mangalore University, which had educational institutions of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kodagu districts will lose the power of educational activities of Kodagu district.

These include Field Marshal Cariappa college of Madikeri, Mangalore University post-graduate and research centre at Chikkaluvara, government college of Chikkaluvara, research and post graduate centre will remain out of the purview of Mangalore University.

Madikeri MLA Appacchu Ranjan had placed a proposal to form Kodagu University as the staff and students of Kodagu colleges had to go to Mangalore University which is 100 km away. Even the lecturers had tough time in evaluating the papers as they had to cover such a long distance.

In all probability, the vast campus of Mangalore University post graduate and research centre at Chikkaluvaru will be converted into Kodagu University. Once the present assembly session is over, higher education department will depute a special officer to begin all preparations to start Kodagu University.
