Bantwal, Sep 25:  A day after a leopard was reportedly spotted on Saturday night at the tenth mile of Kunjathkal near Faringipet of Pudu village, forest department and local gram panchayat officials visited the spot on Sunday.

It is believed that a person identified as Rafeeq had spotted a leopard on Saturday at 11.30 pm while traveling in his car near the tenth mile of Faringipet. He informed about it to a nearby hotel. The locals began searching for the leopard in the night. But, they could not trace the leopard.

Also, rumours were doing the rounds that a leopard was spotted behind Kunjathkal Anganwadi on Sunday morning. Later, it was reportedly said that the animal was spotted near Padavu of Vallachil in Farangipete on Saturday.

Gram Panchayath president Ramlan Maripalla and other members who visited the Anganwadi launched a search and later informed the forest department officials.

Under the guidance of DRFO Jithesh and other forest officials who rushed to the spot, a search for the leopard began behind the Anganwadi hill.

Speaking to the media, forest department official Baskar said that pug marks of the animal have been traced. But, it cannot be confirmed that it is that of a leopard. “We will place cages at prominent places to trap the leopard. People should be cautious about the animal’s whereabouts and where it has been spotted."
