Mangaluru, Jan 23: Following a complaint by a woman, police on Saturday January 23 arrested a SDPI leader in connection with allegedly sexual assault on a minor girl.

The arrested accused is identified as Siddiq Ullal. He is the president of SDPI zonal committee. He was reportedly absconding.

Police have booked the accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) under Ullal police station limits. A case was registered following the complaint of the victim's mother.

It is gathered, 15 years ago, the woman had converted to Islam after marrying a man from Ullal. After the couple had two girl children, her husband deserted her. In pretext of helping the woman, Siddiq used to visit her. It is alleged that as he failed to entice the woman, he allegedly sexually abused her daughter.
