Bengaluru: Transport corporations to foot salary bills – Staff get half pay

Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Jan 15: Over 1.3 lac officers and staff of the government-run transport corporations in the state received only half month’s salary for the month of December 2020. The state government, which footed the wage bills of the corporations for a few months because of their poor financial condition, has now asked the corporations to pay salaries on their own.

Since April last, the government has been releasing grants matching the salary bills of these corporations. Now it has asked the corporations to make their own arrangements. Because of COVID-19 effect, the corporations have not yet come out of their poor financial situations. Even though many buses are running now, there is dearth of passengers and hence collections are low. KSRTC has appealed to the chief minister to continue financial support at least till March 2021, as the corporations are facing problems on account of non-running of buses on all routes, shortage of passengers, and mounting diesel bills.

So far, the government has released Rs 2,133 crore to these corporations towards their salary payments till November 2020. The government too is facing problems created by the pandemic. Therefore it has to be seen what development will takes place relating to this issue.
