Mangaluru: Woman alleges harassment on bus, shares incident on social media

Daijiworld Media Network –Mangaluru (DV)

Mangaluru, Jan 15: A woman has shared on social media an incident about her horrific experience with a co-passenger in a bus in which she was travelling. The woman has alleged sexual harassment on her way from KS Hegde to Pumpwell in the private bus.

The incident was reported on Thursday January 14. The post on Instagram has become viral now.

She writes in her post, "Today (14-01-2021) around 3:45pm i was on my way to pumpwell in Mahesh bus. This fellow (in the picture) climbed bus from K S hegde hospital stop and sat next to me. Acted as if he is busy speaking on phone n started touching me with another hand, i felt uncomfortable and i moved a little but this fellow kept touching me. I shouted at him, after sometime he asked sorry and went backside. I was relieved but then after 3 stops im seeing him getting down from another bus and got into mahesh again and sat beside me. He Repeated the same cheap activity this time i shouted and told him to move to other vacant gents seat but he refused. In Spite of me insulting him publicly he started to touch again. Sadly the rest of the passengers (oops i can call it as audience) just kept watching us without taking any actions including conductor and driver. I shouted again and i told i will post your picture on social media and make it viral so that you will never do such a activities in your lifetime. Surprisingly, he removed his mask and posed for the picture and said thanks to me.

Screenshot of the post viral post on Instagram

"The reason behind me posting this is to create awareness. bcz it is normal for the woman/girls especially who uses public transportation for their work/college This is not the first time it happend. So many times with different people. Unfortunately, 99% of the woman/ girls doesn't react either scared of their dignity or about thinking of future. No law, no cops, no human beings will come and help you instead they will just watch. Like some reality show.

I humbly request with beautiful ladies and brothers out there whoever reading this post. Repost this as much as you can. Also womans/girls stop remaining silent react in this situation orelse those people will do it again with other ladies,” she said in her post.

This is what we need in this so called “intelligent ” peoples district to happen. It is oblivious that government, law n order etc. are busy in brining “cow matha bachao “ law and forget about “beti bachao” . It is clear that human (specially women) has no value in this country.

She should have requested the driver/ conductor to take the bus to the nearest police station. If refused she should have got down, noted the bus number and gone herself to lodge a complaint.

No lady should be harassed. But hope this doesnt turn out to be like the Jasleen Kaur incident at Delhi where the Saravjeet was falsely accused. Would like the police to investigate the truth. Sharing on social media is easy. Want to hear the other half of the story as well.

Do you know the reason why these sorts of incidents happen in our country ? The answer is because we have a peculiar habit of isolating male and female kids during their child hood. This creates a curiosity in the minds of opposite sexes leading to changes in child's psychology.

We have girls only and boys only schools, we do not allow mingling of girls and boys at a young age (Thanks to BD and its enterprise orgs.)....... migling of male and female children at a young age brings healthy taught's and respect for opposite sex.....we are ourselves (including women) are responsible for this mess............its time we allowed intermingling of kids and change the society.

sick and tired of hearing these kind of cases. we need to come up with some comprehensive solution such as - cctv, panic button, emergency police for quick action, pepper spray, database of offenders, proper bus seating, harsher punishment, facial recognition, responsibility of bus conductor/driver...................

20% of the seats in buses are supposed to be reserved for women, but in Karnataka particularly Mangalore no one follows the same.... State has never invested in social indicators like Education, Women Empowerment.... It is a common sight in buses where women are standing when men are comfortably seated in the seats reserved for women..... Surprisingly women do not raise any voice....

Agreed she should have given complaints.... but having witnessed the police / lawyer questioning of such complainants..... no one will complain too.... Should thrash such brutes and bobbitised.....

Well said Brother. Posting is fine but why not call the cops? reminds me the story of Delhi boy who was falsely accused by girls and harassed by society for years just to prove his innocence in court. Before jumping into conclusion, need to find out the truth behind this. Our Kudla people won't tolerate these behaviors and definitely he would have got free goosas

Horrible. It is increasing day by day.Wish the lady should have changed the place or got up from the seat and stay or sit near someone else.to avoid this guy.or simply get down from bus.and go to a nearby police station to report first.Only this is my advice .sometimes cant avoid these rogues.later report in Police station showing the picture ,which bus and conductor and driver didnt take any action.Nothing can be done when later publish in a media .He must have gone elsewhere to do the same to another.

There are three people who need to be arrested immediately, which any educated administration will do. The accused, the Driver and the Conductor of the bus. The driver and Conductor are supposed to be the custodians of the passengers as long as they are in the vehicle. They have the moral obligation to protect those who take shelter in their vehicle.
Guys, if you are running transport business but want to ignore the stench of the crime right under your nose , then give up the transport business and start fish business.

This man should be arrested for his crimes. Sexual harrassment in public transport is not a new thing ; neither is it infrequent. Both men and women have to struggle with this. I mention both genders here cuz i have heard stories from my male and friends and it just sad to hear. Something really has to be done. At least if such an incident is reported by the passenger to the conductor or bus driver, they should at least stop the bus and deboard the perv.

As one of the dear readers saud it is the responsibility of the drivrr and conductor to ensure safety of the woman. Although even the copassengers are morally responsible. The driver should have taken the bus to thr nearest police station while tye conductor and other male passengers should have restrained tye molester

It’s very sad to hear ur so casual comment. Be responsible dear! It’s not that the women need to learn Judo/Karate to defend themselves, but the law should be stringent against these people. Why don’t u suggest that the bus drivers & conductors to be trained to handle these situations as these incidents keep happening. Forget passengers, they may watch the fun. But it’s the responsibility of the bus management to make sure that the passengers’s safety. I feel, they should be taken to task for failing at their responsibility to take the bus directly to the police station & lodge a complaint. Sad state of affairs. U will know when it happens to ur own sister or mother. Would u suggest they also learn Judi/karate? U will not comment like this. Really disappointing.!

Yes. It's a very good advice and appreciated. Passengers just keep on watching the scene as if they sit in the theatre but here without ticket. Even ladies do not support and keep quiet. Afterwards, if the man gets down, they say... "Olledaythu... Hagene aagbeku.... Yavaglu ee bussugalalli heegene.... "etc. I feel driver, conductors are also friendly with such rogues....look at his pose... Crazy... Mental, shameless...
