Beltangady: Assault on on-duty police personnel - Four held

Beltangady, Jan 13: It is reported that at around 11.30 pm on Monday January 11, a gang of four attacked a team of policemen on beat duty including police and home guards personnel near Lord Janardana temple at Ujire in the taluk. The gang also tore the uniforms worn by the staff.

The arrested accused happen to be Sabu, Manjunath, Kiran and Naveen from Ujire. It is said that police constable Venkatesh, and home guard Rajanna, who were on the night beat rounds near Ujire gate in their uniforms, asked the people who had gathered there to disperse.

In response, the accused not only berated the policemen, but also pulled them by their collar, tore their clothes, assaulted them and threatened to kill them, the beat police said in their complaint.
