Mangaluru: No flights - Many people from coastal Karnataka stranded abroad

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Dec 29: A number of people from the twin districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi are stranded at various points abroad as international flight services have been suspended due to the scare created by the new strain of coronavirus. At present, flights to Dubai, Qatar and Bahrain are operational. Therefore Kannadigas from Saudi Arabia and other countries are finding it impossible to return to their hometowns even if there is an emergency.

Speaking to a Kannada daily, former vice president of NRI Forum Karnataka, Arathi Krishna, said that she has information about a number of people who are finding it hard either to go to India or to return to their work because of absence flights to Saudi Arabia and other countries.

Flights to Saudi Arabia had been suspended a few weeks ago. People holding work visas were in the past, travelling to UAE, complete 14 days quarantine there and then travel to Saudi Arabia. Many therefore are compelled to stay put in the UAE hotels awaiting resumption of flights to Saudi, said Hidayat Addoor, convener of Kannadigas Federation.

At present, Air India flights to Dubai operate on a daily basis under the 'Vande Bharat' initiative from Mangaluru while SpiceJet and Indigo too have flights to Dubai on certain days. However, in the light of the recent developments, there is apprehension that these flights also might get suspended anytime now.

The fare for Vande Bharat flight is fixed by Central Government. The revenue also go exclusively
to Central Government. Air India is not making anything out of these flights. Since the revenue is
lucrative the Delhi government continues to operate flights under Vande Bharat scheme denying
    Air India its routes.

For your kind information Air India does not loot passengers.
They are forced to capitalise on the situation by the government of India.
Please, if you can find out the benefit that Air India gets out of these so called Vande Bharat flights.
More than 60% profit is gobbled by the government and AI gets only the crumbs.
Why should AI only operate these flights in the garb of Vande Bharat?
If Indigo and other private carriers can operate scheduled flights why can't AI ?
For all emergency evacuation flights YOU/WE needed AI ! Why point a finger at AI now ?

Dear Roy, i agree with you. Our selected representative are good for nothing. they take part only if there political benefit for them. they lead any unjustified agitation of love jihad, conversion, beef etc etc. The MP once told to put fire to whole Canara Dist if allegations on sanghis if members of some minority organisations are not arrested. What more can we expect from these representatives.
