Mangaluru: Christmas celebration of joy, peace, sharing held at Mount Carmel Central School

Media Release

Mangaluru, Dec 23: Soaking in the spirit of Christmas, Mount Carmel Central School had a virtual yet wishful Christmas celebration at the school auditorium on December 23.

The celebration commenced invoking blessings of the Divine in all its glory beginning with the prophecy of Isaiah. The welcome dance ushered in the Christmas tidings.

The principal, Sister Melissa in her Christmas message cited, Christmas is a call to open our hearts wide enough not only to embrace others in love and joy, but in pain and poverty too. She further being overwhelmed sang a tune whose lyrics carry the true essence of Christmas to you and me.

“To seek Him, don’t trouble,
to Bethlehem to go,
in silence you’ll find Him
And in the poor next door”

We need not go to Bethlehem or any other place to meet Baby Jesus, but we can find Him in the silence of our hearts as well as in the poor and needy. She appreciated the cheerful donors of the ‘Love Offering’ and urged others by saying it is not the quantity but the desire to share with the needy.

The Christmas skit titled 'A Ray of Hope' ferried the audience to the city of Bethlehem and hope was once again rekindled. The joy of the staff of MCCS was in leaps and bounds to put up this meaningful and joyful Christmas event. The melodious and multi-lingual carols along with a joyous Santa had a spell of magical moments on all. Teacher Sandhya compered the programme with a joyful spirit. An attractive, artistically designed crib prepared by the staff members depicted the origin of Christmas crib.

The true essence of Christmas was manifested in an act of sharing with the needy. When the call was heard for a love offering, it was heartwarming to see the response of the parents and staff of MCCS. Despite being hit badly by the covid pandemic, the desire to share with the neglected of the society was evident. This time maybe not in leaps and bounds but sufficient to make a difference at four shelter homes – White Doves Home for the destitute, Home for the Aged of Little Sisters of the Poor, Prashanth Nivas Home for the Aged at Jeppu and Veronica Vihar, a home for the differently-abled adults at Maryhill. Definitely the receivers' blessings this Christmas will vibrate in all families.

To make the children feel the spirit of Christmas, a number of competitions were organised classwise and the response was encouraging.
