Media Release

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Mount Carmel Central School from December 5'to 12' celebrated the 'Fit India School Week'.

Various activities were organised for the students and staff, like virtual assembly on Free Hand Exercises, Fun and Fitness, Yoga, Rope Skipping etc and competitions like poster making and preparing advertisement on the theme 'Hum Fit Toh India Fit'.

The finale of Fit India School week was the 'Family Fitness Day' which was observed on December 12. The programme commenced with a short prayer service. The principal, Sr Melissa welcomed the renowned yoga trainer Yogarathna Gopalakrishna Delampady. She, in her welcome message, cited the origin of yoga starting in India and wished that every member of the MCCS family inculcate this priceless boon in their daily life.

The yoga session began by inviting positive rays with the ‘Om Shanthi’ chant. This was followed by warm up exercises and asanas. The yoga guru graciously distributed fliers and urged the staff to make yoga a part of one’s daily routine to enjoy life to its fullest. This session was refreshing and rejuvenating indeed. After a short break, the Zumba session had its own effect and charm on the staff that they enjoyed it thoroughly. In full spirit of the body, soul and the mind, the staff chanted 'Hum fit tho India fit' and charged towards the grounds where the sports event was to take place. Glimpse of the events held, in the 100 mt race teachers fought it to be crowned the fastest, the walk race proved that the seniors are worthy to compete.

Who said the shot-put was only for the well built? The MCCS staff proved it otherwise. In the court games, the scourging sun did not deter the teachers but instead boosted their enthusiasm to fight till the end. The team spirit was at its best during the relay.

The most awaited moment was the announcement of the day. The first place was bagged by the team Warriors. It was a moment of pride to see four of the former students as umpires of different events. Sr Melissa, teachers Nonisha and Leena were the announcers for the sports event. Refreshments were served before the court events and everyone’s palate was sweetened by the cool candy. It was a day not just to pass by, but to remember and practice ‘Hum Fit Tho India Fit’.

In the evening from 6 pm onwards, two sessions on 'Fitness, diet and nutrition during the Pandemic' were organised live for the students, staff and parents on the school’s YouTube channel.
Dr Caroline D'Souza spoke on Mental Fitness, coping with stress and anxiety, followed by Bhairavi R Shaw who spoke on Diet and Nutrition. Both the sessions were very enlightening and helpful too.
