Udupi, Dec 4: Home minister of Karnataka, Basavaraj Bommai, said that tourism in Goa has advanced a lot more as compared to Karnataka. "There are a lot of differences in the coastal regulatory zone (CRZ) rules governing the two states. Like Goa, we too will simplify the rules, which has remained a dream from the last two to three decades After Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister, draft plan to implement CRZ rules on Goa model has been prepared and I am hopeful that the same will be implemented within a few months from now," he added.
He was speaking after inaugurating the open air theatre and park near the sea-walk at Malpe beach which have been built at a cost of two crore rupees, on Thursday December 3.
The minister promised to prepare detailed project report for the construction of Marina in Malpe-Padukere section of the seashore and to send a proposal to the centre seeking grant to implement the project. He also asked the deputy commissioner of the district to prepare a vision document by including tourist spots and sacred centres of faith in the district, create a logo, and activate the task force.
Bommai said that he wants this district to emerge as the top tourist spot in the state and to convert Malpe into an international tourist spot. He asserted that the district has enough nature's bounty but cleanliness has to be maintained and nature should be used in a proper way.
Demand for Marina
MLA K Raghupati Bhat sought the minister's help in setting up national level Marina at Malpe-Padukere section of the beach on the lines recommended by experts. He noted that the beaches and centres of faith in Udupi attract lacs of tourists here and felt that projects at beaches that can give impetus to tourism can result in the development of the district. He said that in addition to walking tack and cycle tracks that are being built at Padukere here, if stones are laid on one section, the people can view the sea and river together. He felt that there is also scope to undertake cable car project here.
The sea-walk has a 15-feet high statue of Jatayu. There are many stone sculptures projecting the culture of the region.
Chairman of coastal development authority Mattarau Ratnakar Hegde, Udupi Urban Development Authority chairman Raghavendra Kini, municipal president Sumitra R Nayak, vice president Laxmi Manjunath Kola, local councillor Edeline Karkada, president of Dkashina Kannada and Udupi district co-operative fisheries federation Yashpal Suvarna, deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha, zilla panchayat chief executive officer Naveen Bhat Y, superintendent of police N Vishnuvardhan, and assistant superintendent of police Kumar Chandra were present.
