Mangaluru, Nov 3: The coronavirus cases in India are displaying a downward trend and a similar situation is being witnessed even across coastal districts.

During the initial stages of the pandemic, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi recorded a steep rise in the number of coronavirus cases along with an increase in the mortality rate. However, recently the daily reported cases and the mortality rate has seen a drastic dip.

The positive cases in the districts initially witnessed were 400 to 500 and 10 to 15 deaths were recorded almost every day. However, towards the end of October, the numbers began falling below 100 cases a day, with daily deaths dropping to one.

Speaking to Daijiworld.com, DHO Dr Ramachandra Bayari said, "The coronavirus infection is slowing down not only in the coastal region but across the entire country and state. Mostly, the virus might be losing its virulence."

As of Monday, Dakshina Kannada corona tally raised to 30,392. Out of which, 1,712 cases are currently active. Meanwhile, the recoveries in the district jumped to 27,999. Whereas, 679 people have succumbed to the coronavirus infection.

On the other hand, Udupi corona tally increased to 21,965, with 31 new cases on Monday. The district currently has 551 active cases. Meanwhile, the recoveries climbed to 21,232. Over 183 deaths have been reported so far in the district.
