Karkala, Oct 15: Municipal councillor Shubhada Rao stated that a complaint has been registered in the Lokayukta office against Karkala MLA V Sunil Kumar, the district labour officer and the taluk labour officer on the allegations of irregularities over the distribution of food kits worth Rs 44.95 lac.

“Karnataka construction labour department had released 5,000 food kits worth Rs 44.95 lac for distribution among registered construction workers distressed due to coronavirus. The list of beneficiaries submitted to the government, that was issued by the department of labour and released by Karkala legislators was a false list. There is no record of anyone on that list receiving a kit. Following which a complaint has been lodged against the MLA and two labour officials in the office of the Lokayukta,” said Shubhada Rao.

“The list of beneficiaries prepared by the MLA had the names of those who are deceased. It is a bogus list prepared on purpose. The list of beneficiaries was prepared without holding any programmes and the concerned have plundered the government's money. The agency entrusted to distribute the kits transferred huge amounts to the bank account of the MLA has strengthened the suspicions of corruption,” stated the councillor in the complaint.
