Mangaluru, Sep 25: The inter-state bus services between the city and Kasargod, which have remained suspended since the last six months, may become operational soon. This optimism is borne out of the decision of Dakshina Kannada district administration to approach the state government with a request to take up the issue with Kerala government.

As the Kerala government remained rigid on the issue of opening up border roads with Karnataka because of coronavirus concerns, a lot of problems were encountered by commuters. As per an estimate, 5,000 people travel to and fro between these two cities everyday and there were 120 trips on this route everyday.

The people had expressed the need for buses as they are the only economical means of transportation now. Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation officials had said that it is up to the two governments to enter into an understanding. The district administration has now decided to call for a report from KSRTC and transport department about the problems in starting the services again and the actions needed for the same. Once the reports are received, the administratiup will take up wth the government on the basis of its contents.

It is said that KSRTC had written to the transport department of Kerala in the past to permit the resumption of the bus services which have remained suspended for the last six months.

Mumbai bus cancelled: KSRTC had announced to resume inter-state bus services after the lockdown was eased, and several services are already running. It had said that it would run bus services to Mumbai commencing on September 24. Online ticket booking facility was extended. But no KSRTC buses were run to Mumbai on Thursday because of the paucity of passengers, the officials said.
