Mangaluru, Sep 24: Mangaluru City Corporation mayor Diwakar Pandeshwar has urged for the payment of property tax to be done before September 30 to avoid penalty.

Addressing media here on Thursday, September 24, Diwakar said, "Keeping the corona pandemic in mind, the government had extended time twice to make the payment for the property tax without any penalty. Now the last date for the same is September 30. The people are requested to also make payments for their pending water bills at the earliest. There are have also been a lot of complaints, loopholes in water bills, to resolve this issue we decided to conduct a water Adalat next month to resolve these issues.

"We have also received a lot of grievances regarding the illegal flex and banners put across the city. Three days were also provided for the removal of these illegal banners. On the expiry of the time period allotted, we conducted a drive to remove such banners. Whosoever wants to put up any flex or banners they will have to take permission from the MCC. At the same time, we will be carrying out drive to evacuate street vendors who have acquired footpaths," he stressed.

"During the recent MCC council meeting, we also decided to revise the water fare. The old water fare: 0-8 kilolitre – Rs 7 per kilolitre, 8-15 kilolitre – Rs 9 per kilolitre, 15-25 kilolitre – Rs 11 per kilolitre, 25 kilolitre and above Rs 12 per kilolitre. As per newly revised water fare 0-10 kilolitre – Rs 6 per kilolitre, 10-15 kilolitre – Rs 7 per kilolitre, 15–25 kilolitre – Rs 9 per kilolitre, 25-30 kilolitre – Rs 11 per kilolitre, 30 and above – Rs 13 per kilolitre," the mayor said.

"Even the solid waste disposal fee has been revised, earlier properties up to 500 sq feet built-up area liable to pay Rs 50, properties from 501 sq feet to 1,000 sq feet Rs 75 and properties from 1,001 square feet to 1,500 square feet Rs 100. The revised price: properties up to 500 sq feet built-up area liable to pay Rs 30, properties from 501 sq feet to 1,000 sq feet Rs 60 and properties from 1,001 square feet to 1,500 square feet Rs 80," he announced.

Corporator Premananda Shetty said, "We are deeply hurt by the allegations on renaming the St Aloysius College road to Mulky Sundaram Shetty road. Many roads have been renamed during the Congress and BJP rule, roads were renamed without any confusion and through unanimous decisions in the past. When a road has to be renamed, a lot of procedures are carried out, which can take up to one year of time. However, during that time no one raised any objections. We had also called for a hearing of all the parties in the month of February, the decision was then forwarded to the government. None of the decisions in this matter was either taken overnight or in a hushed manner."

With regard to renaming of Ladyhill Circle, mayor Diwakar said, "Several organizations have appealed to rename the Ladyhill circle to Narayana Guru Circle. There are set of procedures to be followed in renaming the circle and the MCC will look into it. Ladyhill is the name of a school which is why it is called the Ladyhill Circle. Similarly, it is Ambedkar circle, but it is called Jyothi Circle because of Jyothi Talkies."

We will also conduct a campaign to create awareness over wearing a mask, as we have observed people flouting the rule of wearing masks, he said.

Talking about the traffic issue related to the circle constructed around the clock tower, the mayor said that the police have raised objections on the construction as it may cause traffic problem. So the circle around the clock tower will be removed.

Deputy Mayor Vedavathi, corporators Sudheer Shetty, Poornima and others were present.

Personally, I feel that there is absolutely no need to change the name of the roads especially in this instance the old name Lighthouse hill road was/is very appropriate. However, a great many names were changed under Congress rule and most of them were named after one dynasty family members and I dont remember anyone making such a hullabaloo about any of it, typical double standards ..

When you elect idiots as your leaders this is the result. Nothing can be done. These people are interested only in renaming roads or circles and this will not benefit anyone. See the condition of roads. Pathetic. Just wondering at covid time this renaming was required? Where were these people when they destroyed the existence of Vijaya Bank? Puppets of central government who is ruining the economy as well as ruining the communal harmony in the society. Rename all roads MCC and that will be your only achievement. What a wastage of tax payers money. This democracy system of India really sucks. We need to have strong military dictatorship which works for people and not these idiots who are interested only in filling their pockets.

Aloysius College should not have got into this controversy. Aloysius College is a ICON and most respected College in the City and World wide. Students who has come out of this college has been working all over the world. Aloysius College don't need a road in its name. Actually IT SHOULD BE ALL ROADS LEAD TO ALOYSIUS, that should have been the motto.

Mangala ooru is welcome town. Means the place itself welcomes outsider to our place. Light house hill means light. Changed that name to Hindu name. Lady is respected word and a rare name. Lady Hill Ladies Hill. Mother is Lady daughter is lady. What is the wrong with these names.

    Such beautiful are changing means.

So change all the names and at the end change Mangala (welcome ) ooru to Mangana Ooru. Because all the religion people enter the town.

If such good names changed means no Mangala remains in our town.

Changing of the road names will effect the address on certain documents like ration card, bank passbook, Aadhar card, telephone, mobile, Voter ID , Passport, POA , etc.etc.
This again another burden for citizens to update their address on all documents.

There are lots of work pending and to be completed. Firstly attend to them and then go to this unimportant work. If you wanted to give new names then do it where the roads are still there which are not renamed. Dont scratch the old one and rename it as the old names already established. Be sensible.

    Dear Mr Mayor,
by your words you have proved that you and your corporators are hypocrites. So many people have no jobs or paid half salary or no salary at all and you guys are shamelessly increased the property tax to 15% and now asking us to pay it by September 30.

You people have no heart, no compassion to the sufferings of people, if had, you wouldn't have increased the water bill and solid waste disposal charges. Corona cases are increasing day by day in the city and instead of taking measures to lessen it, you and your team are busy re-naming the roads or circles. What an irony??? What a waste? What hypocrisy???

You say, schools can not raise the fees, schools can not collect the fees, but MCC can increase the tax, can collect Bill's and charge fines if not paid. This is our democracy. This is our 'acche din'. Still, you are blindly boasting and justifying your actions of increasing tax, water and electricity Bill's, renaming roads, giving money to goon's to cause trouble in the society etc etc and we blindly voting them!

For the Good information of Mayor Diwaker and the Corporators Mulky Sundaram Shetty was educated in the Aloysius College.

Suppose MSS was alive he would have not allowed his name but would have proposed St. Aloysius College Road. There are many fundamental corporators who have been educated in the St., Aloysius College.

What are they talking about street vendors acquired the footpath, more than that there are hotels, commercial complexes acquired footpath for the customers and obstructing pedestrians from using the footpath. At most of the places in Mangalore we do not have footpaths.
It is a fact that the renaming of St. Aloysius college road was done without any notice, it was done overnight.

After the Church Attacks from the Communal Fundamentals, this is the second attack on the Community from the Communal Fundamentals, Behind this Diwakar, and some Fundamental Organizations and some Communal Corporators are involved to influence the BJP led Mangalore Corporation.

Mayor Diwakar Pandeshwar has taken personal interest in changing the name of LHH Road as M.S.Shetty Road when the Vijaya Bank name itself was vanished then purposely washing its hands blaming Vijaya Bank former and present employees Association members.

    Dear Mr. Diwakar Pandeshwar,
If the decision was not taken overnight why there was no news at all in any of the newspapers and why there was no discussions the corporators meeting except deciding at the overnight and changing the name immediately on the next day.

What was the urgency in changing the name so fast without informing the press?

I OPINE THAT THE COMMUNAL FUNDAMENTALS HAVE TAKEN PERSONAL INTEREST IN ATTACHING THE COMMUNITY.

Decision not taken overnight - how much better will it be if you chaps work at improving the city infrastructure instead of wasting time renaming roads to cater to some bloated egos/political masters. How far ahead will you go by denying or rewriting history - you will still be running in the same place albeit with a different name.

If some existing name really is offensive to some, then a case should be made for renaming it. Only after agreement is reached for the removal of a particular name should a process start to find a new name.
Names should not just be changed because some politicians want to flex their muscles in public.
