Mangaluru, Sep 17: In a relief to taxpayers and businesses in Mangaluru and surrounding regions, the union finance ministry has decided to withdraw the decision to shift the income-tax office from the city to Goa.

Union minister D V Sadananda Gowda interacted with the union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday, September 17 on the matter of retaining the principal commissioner of income tax (PCIT) office in Mangaluru and cancelling of the order passed for shifting the office from Mangaluru to Panaji, Goa.

Following the representation made by various forums including the Mangaluru branch of ICAI, Udupi branch of ICAI and the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the finance minister agreed to withdraw the earlier notification of shifting the PCIT office from Mangaluru to Goa.

It has thus been decided to retain the PCIT office in the city itself.

The PCIT office of Mangaluru has four lac I-T payers under its limits and generates Rs 4,000 crore income from Uttara Kannada, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada district limits. It has the distinction of being the second-highest tax collecting office in Karnataka.

It may recalled that on Wednesday September 16, Mangaluru MLA Vedavyas Kamath too had allayed fears about the shifting of PCIT to Goa, and said that no such move would be made by the government.

Vow, what an achievement by our honourable CM. Mangaloreans would have been in deep........if IT office is shifted to Goa!!! Or is it a pure drama when more and bigger problems remain to be resolved in Mangalore as well as state. Why our ministers are wasting their time for these trivial issues and blow trumpets🎺?

That she has withdrawn the order is secondary, but her audacity to shift it is condemnable. Will she dare to centralise all states' IT Offices too like she wanted to shift Mangalore's IT Office ??

Like it was made to go personally to RBI to convert demonitised currency ? Whereas RBI were only in main cities such as Mumbai and Chennai. Yes, some NRIs are still left with some currency with them that they declared while comics to India. Nationalised banks had no permission to accept them.

    Headless chicken he he he....
