Mangaluru, Sep 17: The district National Student Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the Congress, on Thursday September 17 observed 'National Unemployment Day' by selling pakodas in front of the Congress office in Mallikatte here.

September 17 is also the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. As BJP geared up to celebrate the PM's birthday with 'Seva Saptah' week with a series of programmes like blood donation camps, the opposition parties led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi termed the day 'Unemployment Day' to emphasize the increasing rate of unemployment in the country especially in the wake of coronavirus pandemic.

Addressing the gathering, NSUI district general-secretary Sawad Sullia said, "We are celebrating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday as 'National Unemployment Day' in an innovative way by selling pakodas. Modi had earlier promised to generate 12 crore jobs. Today, we are in a situation where we have lost 2.5 crore jobs.

"Due to the unscientific manner of imposing the lockdown, every section of society has been affected. We have faced job losses. Doctors, engineers, graduates are without jobs and are selling pakodas. The central government has not taken measure to announce schemes for students.

"Dakshina Kannada is known as an educational hub, but now students from here are moving abroad in search of jobs. The Dakshina Kannada MPs have failed to bring in IT companies to our district to generate employment," he said.

NSUI state general secretary Farooq Bayabe, Anvith Kateel, Shounak Rai, Vinay Kumar and others were present.

Prime Minister should begin to brighten the future of youth – NSUI leader Saurabh Ballal

“BJP activists are celebrating the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi all over the country. We hope that the PM directs his efforts to brighten the future of youth after this,” said NSUI leader Saurabh Ballal.

“The country is facing a difficult situation and the government failed to create schemes to provide jobs to the youth. Young people have become unemployed due to the lockdown. The country is facing internal and external issues that have never been heard before. The union government is reducing the facilities that should be provided by them and are making life for the people miserable. Government organizations are being sold to private organizations one by one knocking down the livelihood of the youth. There are clouds of war hovering over India and China. A small country like Nepal which was on friendly terms with India is also looking for scuffles,” he said.

“The state government has failed to recognise the Covid treatment-related irregularities and crack down the drugs network. They have also failed to form schemes that promote self-sufficiency among youth. The environment has become conducive for corruption and drug addiction.”

“The government should show determination to defeat the drug trade. It has the responsibility of rescuing youth and society from the drug mafia. NSUI is observing Prime Minister’s birthday on September 17 as Unemployment Day. Youth should participate in twitter campaigns in this connection and create awareness so that the union government solves the issue of unemployment,” he said.

Agree Mangalore or whole South canara district is a education hub and even an Banking hub. It is because many enterprising people of various communities from Mangalore took up a risk of setting up educational universities and even Banks.

But need to ask question yourself if new age youngsters now from Mangalore have same daring and capability of setting up Tech Startups, Software service/product companies??

NSUI leaders should cast away dark blinkers fom their eyes !!! They will then realize the profound injustice, heaped upon the coastal region of Uttara n Dakshin Kannada district by the Dynastical Congress party, who were ruling Karnataka !!!! Mangaluru is an educational hub since decades..... yet my educated parents were forced to flee to Bombay to earn their livelihood !!!

What do you feel about Indians working in the Gulf ? Are they working in such harsh conditions because they were chased ? Those, who apply for migration from there, with no intension at all to return to India ??

What has BJP done to bring them back and arrange employment since 6 years of their rule ??

Bombay is still in India Mr. Almeida, you don't need visa to go there. Well, after Lockdown many have returned to Karnataka. You are welcome too.

Well, unemployment is one of the major issue faced by countries around the globe and no doubt, the Government must implement measures to reduce the unemployment rate. That said, the youths must also understand that the degree certificate must be backed with right mindset and caliber to get a job which is missing in most of the youths. The job market has been hit by Covid but it’s opening up now slightly which is a positive note. Until the youths in the pic get a job, they can sell pakodas and earn their livelihood plus also think of using a machine which could convert potato into gold!

How easily people trying to downplay the rate of unemployment.
People will understand only when they/their family takes loan for their studies. After completing their course, they try their best to get employed. They travel all over India searching for job. Finally they end up unemployed. Here mark does not matter. There are people who secured distinction and still unemployed.

Some say that they are not enough qualified to get job. Data on Jobs creation explains it very well. Just check how many students are getting graduated every year and how many jobs are newly created every year. I doubt, not even 10% jobs are getting created every year.

It is Gov's duty to create jobs. Will the government fill vacancies atleast?

And it is not just the guys from Congress that go hungry. Everyone goes hungry. So please start going by facts and not by speeches. Modi has been given enough time and he has destroyed India and it will take another generation to mend his stupid mistakes

First show any new businesses opening, factories and industries opening, banks jobs are virtually zero as they themselves are merging with other banks, MSMEs are closing in record number. Govt doesn't have money and incentives to invest on youth. Unemployment 45 year high and GDP -8.9% end of last year mean anything to you????????...... Now it must be 75 years high and -25%.
