Udupi: Fire due to short circuit burns down two shops near service bus stand

Udupi, Sep 16: A fire erupted in two shops located in the service bus stand area here on Wednesday September 16.

A short circuit is said to have caused the fire.

Both shops suffered heavy damage and the loss has been estimated at Rs 2 lac, as per the claim made by shop owner Raghunath.

One of the shops gutted was Sri Mallikarjun Stores while the other one was a mobile shop. The short circuit happened at around 2.30 am resulting in burning down of goods inside the shops.

The police on patrol duty sensed smoke emanating out of the shops after which they got in touch with shop owners and fire brigade. The fire brigade immediately reached the spot and succeeded in dousing the fire.

City councillor T G Hegde and municipal officials visited the spot on coming to know of the tragedy.

    As a mandatory rule , all shops and establishment / offices should have contact numbers displayed outside their shops / outlets / shutters / wall / display board etc . This will help passerby or Police personnel to quickly inform the concerned owner , to rush and attend such situation and also alert fire brigade personnel..
