Sep 11: 446 fresh corona cases in DK, Udupi reports 168; 9 deaths in twin districts

Mangaluru/Udupi, Sep 11: In yet another major spike in the week, Dakshina Kannada on Friday, September 11 recorded 446 new cases and seven deaths, while Udupi reported 168 new cases and two deaths.

As per the Dakshina Kannada district health bulletin, a total of 16,558 positive cases have been reported to date, out of which 3,515 are currently active. A total of 1,16,543 samples have been tested so far, out of which 1,00,216 reported negative.

As many as 12,609 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital, including 197 on Friday. A total of 434 deaths have occurred so far, including seven on Friday.

Among the 446 new cases, 170 are primary contacts, 177 have influenza-like illness (ILI), 11 have been diagnosed with severe acute respiratory illness (SARI), and 88 cases are under investigation. As many as 234 out of the 446 are asymptomatic. Among them, as many as 248 are from Mangaluru, 85 from Bantwal, 13 from Puttur, 23 from Sullia, 52 from Beltangady and 25 are from outside DK district.

Of all the seven deaths reported on Friday, three are from Mangaluru and the rest four are from outside the district. All the deceased except one had comorbidities.


Udupi

As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 7,346 people are in COVID hospitals/care centres, including 47 fresh admissions on Friday, while a total of 6,390 people are in home isolation, including 121 new on Friday.

As many as 11,784 people, including 232 on Friday, have been discharged from isolation/hospitals so far. These include 6,399 from hospital isolation wards and 5,385 from home isolation.

A total of 82,948 samples have been collected so far, including 1,584 on Friday, out of which 1,435 are COVID suspects and 68 are COVID contacts. Out of the total samples, 68,795 have turned out to be negative, including 1,320 on Friday, and 410 reports are awaited.

As many as 13,743 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including 168 on Friday, and 1,831 cases are currently active. As per the district bulletin, 128 deaths have occurred so far including two deaths reported on Friday. The deceased are two males, a 73-year-old from Kundapur and a 60-year-old from Davangere district.

Among the 168 new cases, 96 are in Udupi, 44 in Kundapur, 26 in Karkala, and two from outside the district. Among them, 107 acquired the virus through contacts, 49 have ILI, one has SARI, and 11 are under investigation. Out of the 168 cases, 72 are asymptomatic.
