Sep 9: 310 new corona cases in DK, 258 in Udupi; seven deaths in twin districts

Mangaluru, Sep 9: Dakshina Kannada on Wednesday, September 9 recorded 310 new cases and six deaths, while Udupi reported 258 cases with one death.

As per the Dakshina Kannada district health bulletin, a total of 15,762 positive cases have been reported to date, out of which 3,102 are currently active. A total of 1,12,168 samples have been tested so far, out of which 96,716 are negative.

As many as 12,242 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital, including 256 on Wednesday. A total of 418 deaths have occurred so far, including six on Wednesday.

Among the 310 new cases, 82 are primary contacts, 176 have influenza-like illness (ILI), six have been diagnosed with a severe acute respiratory illness (SARI), and 46 cases are under investigation. As many as 109 out of the 310 are asymptomatic. Among them, as many as 188 are from Mangaluru, 27 from Bantwal, 25 from Puttur and Sullia each, 26 from Beltangady and 19 are from outside DK district.

Out of six deaths reported on Wednesday, five were from Mangaluru and one from outside the district. All the deceased had co-morbidities.

Udupi:

As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 7,243 people are in COVID hospitals/care centres, including 68 fresh admissions on Wednesday, while a total of 6,098 people are in home isolation, including 190 new on Wednesday.

As many as 11,342 people, including 218 on Wednesday, have been discharged from isolation/hospitals so far. These include 6,267 from hospital isolation wards and 5,075 from home isolation.

A total of 80,804 samples have been collected so far, including 1,315 on Wednesday, out of which 1,076 are COVID suspects and 136 are COVID contacts. Out of the total samples, 67,091 have turned out to be negative, including a round figure of 1000 on Wednesday, and 368 reports are awaited.

As many as 13,345 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including 258 on Wednesday, and 1,884 cases are currently active. As per the district bulletin, 122 deaths have occurred so far. One death reported on Wednesday. The deceased is a 64-year-old male from Karkala diagnosed with co-morbidities.

Among the 258 new cases, 162 are in Udupi, 39 in Kundapur, 41 in Karkala, and 16 cases are from outside the district. Among them, 171 acquired the virus through contacts, 49 have ILI, seven have SARI, and 31 are under investigation. Out of the 258 cases, 114 are asymptomatic.
