Sep 5: DK corona tally rises by 377, death toll reaches 400-mark; Udupi records 175 cases

Mangaluru/Udupi, Sep 5: In yet another major spike, Dakshina Kannada on Saturday September 5 recorded 377 new cases and nine deaths, while Udupi reported 175 cases and four deaths.

As per the Dakshina Kannada district health bulletin, a total of 14,600 positive cases have been reported till date, out of which 2,961 are currently active. A total of 1,04,911 samples have been tested so far, out of which 90,311 are negative.

As many as 11,293 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital, including 311 on Saturday. A total of 400 deaths have occurred so far, including nine on Saturday.

Among the 377 new cases, 50 are primary contacts, 178 have influenza-like illness (ILI), 19 have been diagnosed with severe acute respiratory illness (SARI), and 130 cases are under investigation. As many as 161 out of the 377 are asymptomatic. Among them, as many as 192 are from Mangaluru, 45 from Bantwal, 64 from Puttur, 37 from Sullia, 20 from Beltangady and 19 are from outside DK district.

All the nine patients who died on Saturday had comorbidities. Of the nine deaths reported in the district Mangaluru reported three deaths, Bantwal, Puttur and Sullia reported one death each and three deaths were reported from outside DK district.

Udupi

As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 6,996 people are in COVID hospitals/care centres, including 40 fresh admissions on Saturday, while a total of 5,508 people are in home isolation, including 135 new on Saturday.

As many as 10,493 people, including 232 on Saturday, have been discharged from isolation so far. These include 5,935 from hospital isolation wards, and 4,558 from home isolation.

A total of 76,891 samples have been collected so far, including 1,435 on Saturday, out of which 1,133 are COVID suspects and 130 are COVID contacts. Out of the total samples, 64,123 have turned out to be negative, including 1,250 on Saturday, and 257 reports are awaited.

As many as 12,511 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including 175 on Saturday, and 1,906 cases are currently active. As per the district bulletin, 112 deaths have occurred so far including four on Saturday.

The four deaths were reported on Saturday. They were two female aged 79 and 70 from Udupi and a 62-year-old male from Udupi, another deceased was a 68-year-old male from Karkala. All had comorbidities.

Among the 175 new cases, 106 are in Udupi, 34 in Kundapur, 31 in Karkala, and four from outside the district. Among them, 65 acquired the virus through contacts, 61 have ILI, and 49 are under investigation. Out of the 175 cases, 41 are asymptomatic.
