Sep 2: 414 new corona cases in Dakshina Kannada; Udupi reports 167, death toll crosses 100-mark

Mangaluru/Udupi, Sep 2: In yet another major spike, Dakshina Kannada on Wednesday September 2 recorded 414 new cases and six deaths, while Udupi reported 167 cases and three deaths.

As per the Dakshina Kannada district health bulletin, a total of 13,479 positive cases have been reported till date, out of which 2,600 are currently active. A total of 99,414 samples have been tested so far, out of which 85,935 are negative.

As many as 10,498 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital, including 346 on Wednesday. A total of 381 deaths have occurred so far, including six on Wednesday.

Among the 414 new cases, 77 are primary contacts, 174 have influenza-like illness (ILI), 11 have been diagnosed with severe acute respiratory illness (SARI), and 150 cases are under investigation. Two have domestic travelling history. As many as 218 out of the 414 are asymptomatic. Among them, as many as 222 are from Mangaluru, 64 from Bantwal, 49 from Puttur, 31 from Sullia, 28 from Beltangady and 20 are from outside DK district.

All the six patients who died on Wednesday had comorbidities. While Mangaluru reported four deaths, one death each was reported from Beltangady and outside DK district.

Udupi

As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 6,803 people are in COVID hospitals/care centres, including 61 fresh admissions on Wednesday, while a total of 5,114 people are in home isolation, including 106 new on Wednesday.

As many as 9,601 people, including 250 on Wednesday, have been discharged from isolation so far. These include 5,626 from hospital isolation wards, and 3,975 from home isolation.

A total of 73,256 samples have been collected so far, including 971 on Wednesday, out of which 732 are COVID suspects and 111 are COVID contacts. Out of the total samples, 60,975 have turned out to be negative, including 812 on Wednesday, and 357 reports are awaited.

As many as 11,924 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including 167 on Wednesday, and 2,221 cases are currently active. As per the district bulletin, 102 deaths have occurred so far including two on Wednesday.

The three deaths reported on Wednesday. All three males aged 55, 70 and 85 from Udupi had comorbidities.

Among the 167 new cases, 92 are in Udupi, 19 in Kundapur, 52 in Karkala, and four from outside the district. Among them, 46 acquired the virus through contacts, 61 have ILI, two have been diagnosed with SARI, and 56 are under investigation. One each have domestic and international travelling history. Out of the 167 cases, 55 are asymptomatic.
