Udupi, Aug 30: The economy which was battered due to coronavirus pandemic seems to be slowly getting back on track. This is reflected in the upliftment of the local economy which works as complimentary to the progress of the economy of the country.

The Shankarapura Jasmine price which had collapsed due to the pandemic, crossed Rs 1,000 on Saturday August 29. It reached Rs 1,050 for one 'atte' or unit. The steady increase in price of the jasmine over the last four or five days has brought smiles on the faces of local jasmine growers.

During lockdown the price of one 'atte' had drastically fallen down to Rs 50. During lockdown 2.0 the jasmine market had closed for the first time in history. Later the price was hovering around Rs 100 to 400 per atte. Jasmine growers get maximum price for their produce during the season of April and May months. But this year these months were under strict lockdown restrictions.

Presently, the yield of jasmine has gone down due to heavy rains. In addition, the Hindu calendar month of Shravana has just started, which has many festivals and occasions. Hence the demand for Shankarpura Jasmine has increased. The flower is offered in temples by devotees.

The price of jasmine which was Rs 850 per atte as on July 31 had gone down afterwards and was between Rs 400 to Rs 560 after August 15. It steadily rose to Rs 560, Rs 730, and Rs 950 on August 26, 27 and 28 respectively. On August 29 it has reached Rs 1,050. As of now, Shankarpura Jasmine is not getting dispatched to Mumbai. Once it starts, the price is expected to rise further.
