Aug 29: Seven deaths, 272 new corona cases in Dakshina Kannada; Udupi reports 172 cases

Mangaluru/Udupi, Aug 29: Dakshina Kannada (DK) on Saturday August 29 recorded 272 new coronavirus cases and seven deaths, while Udupi recorded 172 new cases.

As per the Dakshina Kannada district health bulletin, a total of 12,109 positive cases have been reported till date, out of which 2,550 are currently active. A total of 93,505 samples have been tested so far, out of which 81,396 are negative.

As many as 9,209 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital, including 236 on Saturday which include two from Covid care centres, 137 from home isolation and 97 from hospitals. A total of 350 deaths have occurred so far, including seven on Saturday.

Among the 272 new cases, 43 are primary contacts, 101 have influenza-like illness (ILI), 15 have been diagnosed with severe acute respiratory illness (SARI), and 110 cases are under investigation. Three have international travelling history. As many as 145 out of the 272 are asymptomatic.

Out of the 272 cases, as many as 163 are from Mangaluru, 30 from Bantwal, 33 from Puttur and 23 from Sullia, 11 from Beltangady and 12 are from outside DK district.

All the seven patients who died on Saturday had comorbidities. While Mangaluru reported one death, four were reported from Puttur and two from district outside DK.

Udupi

As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 6,599 people are in COVID hospitals/care centres, including 68 fresh admissions on Saturday, while a total of 4,653 people are in home isolation, including 104 new on Saturday.

As many as 8,603 people, including 219 on Saturday, have been discharged from isolation so far. These include 5,333 from hospital isolation wards, and 3,270 from home isolation.

A total of 70,091 samples have been collected so far, including 789 on Saturday, out of which 552 are COVID suspects and 106 are COVID contacts. Out of the total samples, 58,632 have turned out to be negative, including 941 on Saturday, and 200 reports are awaited.

As many as 11,259 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including 172 on Saturday, and 2,561 cases are currently active. As per the district bulletin, 95 deaths have occurred so far.

Among the 172 new cases, 107 are in Udupi, 19 in Kundapur, 37 in Karkala, and nine from outside the district. Among them, 90 acquired the virus through contacts, 45 have ILI, one has been diagnosed with SARI, and 34 are under investigation. Two patients have international travel history. Out of the 172 cases, 108 are asymptomatic.
