Beltangady: Congress gherao office of MLA Harish Poonja, demand accounts of flood compensation

Mangaluru, Aug 24: Workers of Congress party gheraoed the office of Beltangady MLA Harish Poonja and demanded him to show accounts of flood compensation.

The protest was led by former MLA Vasanth Bangera on Monday, August 24. A minor scuffle occurred between Vasanth Bangera during the attempt to gherao the office of the MLA. Verbal arguments also took place between the police and the protesters. However, the police were able to stop the protesters at the gate of the office of MLA.

The protesters were not wearing face masks along with not maintaining social distance. They warned the MLA of fierce protest if the account of floor relief was not released to the public within 15 days. A flood relief fund was established under the leadership of MLA Harish Poonja last year during the deluge.

    Flood relief aid and Covid-9 aid package only for BJP ruled states and those states who are going in for elections. People are very happy only by the this great announcement and people are not protesting because there is law and order in these states without receiving any compensation in hand because these state administration is enjoying the compensation.

    What can be done by MLA Harish Poonja, if the state and central Governments are sleeping over the papers....!!!!???? This protest has to be statewide.
