Aug 19: Dakshina Kannada reports four deaths, 234 new corona cases; Udupi tally crosses 9,000-mark

Mangaluru, Aug 19: Dakshina Kannada (DK) on Wednesday August 19 recorded 234 fresh cases and four deaths. In yet another spike, as many as 375 new cases, were reported in Udupi.

As per the district health bulletin, a total of 9,535 positive cases have been reported till date, out of which 2,303 are currently active. As many as 6,942 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital, including 115 on Wednesday which includes 95 from home isolation and 20 from hospitals. A total of 290 deaths have occurred so far, including four on Wednesday.

Among the 234 new cases, 104 have influenza-like illness (ILI), 18 have been diagnosed with severe acute respiratory illness (SARI), 35 are primary contacts, and 76 are under investigation. One has domestic travelling history.

Out of the 234 cases, as many as 148 are from Mangaluru, 29 from Bantwal, 14 from Puttur, 13 from Sullia, 23 are from outside DK district. As many as 105 of the cases are symptomatic while 129 are asymptomatic.

All patients who died on Wednesday had comorbidities. While Mangaluru reported two deaths, two deaths were from outside the district.

Udupi

As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 5,778 people are in COVID hospitals/care centres, including 93 fresh admissions on Wednesday, while a total of 3,256 people are in home isolation, including 282 new on Wednesday.

As many as 6,132 people, including 181 on Wednesday, have been discharged from isolation so far. These include 4,411 from hospital isolation wards, and 1,721 from home isolation.

A total of 59,173 samples have been collected so far, including 1,597 on Wednesday, out of which 1,494 are COVID suspects and 65 are COVID contacts. Out of the total samples, 49,432 have turned out to be negative, including 1,608 on Wednesday, and 700 reports are awaited.

As many as 9,041 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including 375 on Wednesday, and 2,831 cases are currently active. As per the district bulletin, 78 deaths have occurred so far.

Among the 375 new cases, 215 are in Udupi, 131 in Kundapur, 27 in Karkala, and two from outside the district. Among them, 205 acquired the virus through contacts, 67 have ILI, five has SARI and 93 are under investigation. Five have domestic travelling history.
