Aug 14: 307 new corona cases in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi records 332; 11 deaths in twin districts

Mangaluru, Aug 14: Dakshina Kannada (DK) on Friday August 14 recorded 307 fresh cases and six deaths. In a major spike, as many as 332 new cases were reported in Udupi along with five deaths.

As per the district health bulletin, a total of 8,378 positive cases have been reported till date, out of which 2,007 are currently active. As many as 6,115 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital, including 242 on Friday which includes seven from Covid care centres, 175 from home isolation and 60 from hospitals. A total of 256 deaths have occurred so far, including six on Friday.

Among the 307 new cases, 130 have influenza-like illness (ILI), nine have been diagnosed with severe acute respiratory illness (SARI), 44 are primary contacts, and 124 are under investigation.

Out of the 307 cases, as many as 197 are from Mangaluru, 57 from Bantwal, 14 from Puttur, 17 from Sullia, 14 from Beltangady and eight are from outside DK district. As many as 145 of the cases are symptomatic while 162 are asymptomatic.

All patients who died on Friday had comorbidities. While Mangaluru reported four deaths, one was from Moodbidri, and one death was from outside the district.

Udupi

As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 5,192 people are in COVID hospitals/care centres, including 190 fresh admissions on Friday, while a total of 2,298 people are in home isolation, including 132 new on Friday.

As many as 4,872 people, including 614 on Friday, have been discharged from isolation so far. These include 3,830 from hospital isolation wards, and 1,042 from home isolation.

A total of 53,162 samples have been collected so far, including 2,369 on Friday, out of which 1,565 are COVID suspects and 173 are COVID contacts. Out of the total samples, 44,025 have turned out to be negative, including 2,262 on Friday, and 1,640 reports are awaited.

As many as 7,497 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including 322 on Friday, and 2,550 cases are currently active. As per the district bulletin, 75 deaths have occurred so far including five on Friday.

The five deaths on Friday include a 63-year-old male from Udupi who was suffering from severe Covid -19 with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, acute respiratory distress syndrome and hypertension. The second patient was an 86-year-old man from Kundapur who was suffering from severe Covid -19 with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, hypertension, diabetes mellitus type-2, ischemic heart disease, and drowning. The third patient was a 48-year-old male from Kundapur who was suffering from severe Covid -19 with bilateral pneumonia, chronic kidney disease, acute respiratory distress syndrome, and diabetes mellitus – type 2. The fourth patient was another 48-year-old male from Kundapur who was suffering from severe Covid-19 with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, hypertension, acute respiratory distress syndrome, congestive cardiac failure and sepis. The fifth patient was another 55-year-old male from Kundapur who was suffering from severe Covid -19 with hypertension, diabetes mellitus, anaemia and acute respiratory distress syndrome.

Among the 322 new cases, 186 are in Udupi, 95 in Kundapur, 36 in Karkala, and five from outside the district. Among them, 110 acquired the virus through contacts, 88 have ILI, four have SARI symptoms, and 117 are under investigation. Three of them have domestic travel history.

    When Chief minister, ex Chief minister and central ministers
    with comorbidities are getting cured and discharged with clock
    work precession from top end hospitals why ordinary citizens
    with similar health issues are coming out of the hospitals only
    in coffins?
