Kasargod, Aug 13: In a gruesome incident, a brother has murdered his own sister after serving her ice cream laced with poison. Moreover, he has also been accused of attempting to kill his parents. The condition of the father is said to be critical.

The deceased has been identified as Ann Mary (16), daughter of Benny and Bessy couple, residents of Balal Aringal. The police have arrested the son Albin Benny (22), in this connection.

While the father Benny is being treated in the district hospital, mother Bessy is under treatment in Kannur private hospital.

The incident had happened two weeks ago. Mary was admitted to the hospital in critical condition. Though she was later shifted to Kozhikode hospital, she died without responding to treatment on August 5.

The sister and the parents had consumed ice cream prepared at home. Soon after, began vomiting and suffered from diarrhoea. The three resorted to home remedies assuming that the stale food caused the sickness. However, two days later, Mary's condition grew worse and she was admitted to a hospital in Cherupuzha. At the same time, she was diagnosed with jaundice and passed away on August 5. As Benny's condition was critical, he was initially treated in Payyanur hospital and then later in Kozhikode hospital.

As Ann Mary died without responding to treatment, a post-mortem was conducted which confirmed that she died of poisoning. Therefore, police registered a case and conducted investigations suspecting the involvement of Albin. The poisonous substance was found only in the body of parents and the daughter but not in the body of Albin. With the investigations now displaying a different picture, Albin was taken into custody and questioned. In the interrogation, Albin reportedly confessed that he served ice cream laced with poison to his family.

Albin had decided to kill the three as they were against his love affair. It is said that he was in love with a girl who belonged to a different religion. The accused is being subjected to further questioning.

Albin's well-devised plan to kill the family

In the past as well, Albin had tried to kill his family by poisoning. Once he had also added poison to a chicken dish. However, due to the low content in the poison level, his plan had failed.

He later researched websites and learnt to lace poison in the ice cream. To avoid suspicions, he had also taken part in the last rites of his sister, and visited his father who was in critical condition in the hospital. He behaved normally so that police personnel and relatives do not grow suspicious of him.

Police personnel stated that the accused was also planning to take over the property.

After the three family members, apart from Albin, falling sick raised suspicions. The medical report by the doctor also helped the police to unearth the criminal conspiracy.
