'Confiscate Bengaluru rioters' properties like Yogi did': MP Tejasvi Surya

Bengaluru, Aug 12 (IANS): Bengaluru South Member of Parliament Tejasvi Surya on Wednesday advised Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa to go the Yogi Adityanath way in confiscating the rioters' properties to compensate for the loss to public property.

"I request Yediyurappa to confiscate and attach the properties of the rioters and compensate the losses to public property in the same way as the Adityanath government did in Uttar Pradesh," the BJP MP said.

In the wake of the riots, arson and vandalism by some people on Tuesday night, he added that Bengaluru is known for its peaceful atmosphere.

"Bengaluru is known for its peace and harmonious society. We must protect this strength of our city at all costs," said Surya.

The young parliamentarian attacked a couple of state Congress politicians for their statements.

He criticized former Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Dinesh Gundu Rao over his statement on the riots.

"Look at how Miya Gundu Rao is cleverly blaming the victims and sparing the perpetrators. Your stunning silence in not condemning Muslim rioters exposes how your party is completely complicit with Jihadi elements," said Surya.

Rao alleged that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) general secretary B. L. Santosh was using the Bengaluru riots to gain political mileage.

Rao said, "His (Santosh's) statement is a crude attempt to communalise the issue, aimed at dividing on caste lines. Pathetic and deplorable. That's what BJP and RSS do best, play politics with dead bodies."

Surya did not spare former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah either.

Siddaramaiah condemned both the violent riots at Kaval Byrsandra and also the social media post which triggered the riot. He requested both the communities to stay calm and maintain peace.

Reacting to the statement from Siddaramaiah, Surya said, "This is the classic spin of secularists -- to falsely equate two disproportionate events. By doing so, they try to exonerate perpetrators of violence, justify their acts as warranted and most importantly, blame alleged instigators for the mishap. The script has gotten stale, Sir".

Three people died in police firing, 60 policemen were injured and several vehicles were set ablaze in Bengaluru on Tuesday night after Congress MLA Akanda Srinivas Murthya's nephew Naveen posted a derogatory message on social media. He has since been arrested.

If they do not have property to confiscate then increase their jail term.. If some1 is defending them publicly they should be ready to pay for the damages to public property ..

Rather than condemning the rioters and the party that instigated the violence, here all are basing a leader who suggested the right thing. So how will the damage be recovered? It will be innocent people like us who will be taxed extra. We would shout and protest when fuel price increase.

Non sense this fellow is talking, he is asking to confiscate property of people who do not have anything. If they had anything then they would not be rioting and damaging public property. The rioters have not got the Rs. 15lacs, if they had that in their accounts at least that could have been confiscated. This MP should know what to talk.

@sma - we are not here to debate what happened in 1947. If you want to do that go to court and raise objections. The point here is simple - who has given them right to damage public property? let them pay or make thier relatives/sympathisers pay (Why dont you people like you also contribute).

So next time they will think before rioting and people like you will think before supporting

Anything done wrong should be criticised but looks like some are justifying it with incidents happening in other places. All i can say to such people is SHAME ON YOU! You are the ones whats wrong with this country. If you can criticize lynching of one kind then you should criticize the other one as well. Talking ill about ones faith is wrong and for that the accused has been arrested but what did the other people do whose properties were burnt they might be middle class people like us and these guys might have just destroyed their means to earn a living. Who has taken accountability to help those affected?

Confiscating their properties is not enough, garnish their incomes and let them work for the rest of their lives repaying the debt is a good option.

However, the law should apply equally to not only ALL those who riot, the same punishment should be against those who instigate, abet and encourage others into rioting by provocative speeches and aggravating the situation in one way of the other. They are equally responsible for getting the rioters onto the streets, so they too should be prosecuted irrespective of the standing and status in society.

These cancerous cells, have to be identified, isolated, neutralized, these treacherous traitors are supported by external enemies across our borders..... who fund such diabolic dance of death in our society... He is directly responsible and master mind to cause this property damage intentionally. A relative of a responsible MLA should be a protector of law and order but not law breaker with intention of total damage. BTW, moral police, mob lynching, vandalizing minority holy places, ABVP fights at university and hostel campuses involves heavy property damages. Who is responsible for these damages???.

Here the issue is damage to Public property. By your own logic, Moral policing Mob lynching may also be due to cow theft, rapes attempt to rapes enticements etc. So the root causes could be many. There are legal means to take the case forward. even books having harsh verses for unbelievers are also among root causes.
