Mangaluru, Aug 10: In a first ever virtual beauty event conducted by Devadiga United, Priya Jaykar Devadiga was crowned as ‘Miss Devadiga 2020’ on Sunday August 9.
The day was marked as a magnanimous day for the Devadiga Community as on this day Devadiga United held ‘Miss Devadiga 2020’. The Devadiga United is a 20,000+ members Facebook group of likeminded Devadiga Community members, whose main motto is ‘United we work, United we grow’.
The Devadiga United group was established to promote harmony amongst Devadiga community and promote integrated development programs for the betterment of the community. The group has conducted many educational, social, entertainment and charity programmes to help community members. In this regard, the group conducted ‘Miss Devadiga 2020’ started in the month of July-August, where young girls of community were requested to participate. This programme become even more special because it was conducted during the lockdown period.
The enthusiasm was infectious and girls participated in a huge number by submitting their profile pictures. The competition was mainly to get the maximum ‘Likes’ on Facebook and Instagram. The Devadiga United Core Team who were instrumental in conducting the event were overwhelmed with the number of participation and humongous 85+ contestants chosen to contest, especially during the difficult phase of Covid-19 situations. The contestants were creative in creating short videos to introduce themselves and seek votes through their creative, humorous ways. In a very short span of time they could garner thousands of votes because of a successful campaigning, thus a glooming period of lockdown was converted into a fun filled event.
After a successful campaign by the contests who participated in the event thousands of ‘Likes’ were generated in both Facebook and Instagram. Based on the criteria, Top-10 contestants were chosen.
Following are the names chosen as Top-10 contestants:
Varnitha Devadiga from Mangaluru, Nisha Devadiga from Mumbai, Riddhi Devadga from Mumbai, Priya Devadiga from Dombvili, Mumbai, Soundarya Devadga from Mangaluru, Sushmitha Devadiga from Mangaluru, Sphoorti Moily from Mumbai, Prathiksha K from Mangaluru, Krithi Devadiga from Bengaluru, Priya Jaykar Devadiga from Mumbai.
The event would have been ordinary, if the competition was just to gather most ‘Likes’. However, the event become exceptional because of the online face-to-face interaction for question answer session setup through virtual meetings using technology tools. Power packed judge panel was setup to judge the contestants in a professional and ethical manner. The judge panel included renowned personalities from the Sandalwood-Coastal wood and National Television personalities such as Anoop Sagar, Sandalwood /Costalwood actor; Nimika Ratnakar, Sandalwood actress-model; Vineeth Kumar Sandalwood/Costalwood actor; Ameeta Devadiga creative producer of television shows. The virtual event of ‘Miss Devadiga 2020’ was hosted by bubbly host Deepa Devadiga as she enabled the entire programme in being active in literal sense, especially facing technology glitches.
Exciting round of questions and answers were conducted amongst the Top-10 contestants which was streamed live to Facebook and other streaming media platforms. Thousands of Devadiga United members watched the whole proceedings enthusiastically and few thousand active comments were generated during the live stream. Contestants participated very actively answering questions boldly showing poise, confidence and intelligence. The virtual meeting was designed such a way that it could mimic the real event modalities and contestants connected to the event from various cities of India. Finally, the judges declared the winners based on their assessment criteria and other formalities.
Priya Jaykar Devadiga from Mumbai was declared ‘Miss Devadiga 2020’. The first runner up was Pratiksha K from Mangaluru and second runner up Soundharya Devadiga from Mangaluru.
Team Devadiga United’s Pavanesh Devadiga, Amith Devadiga from Bahrain, Prashanth CM, Subhash Devadiga, Jasmitha, Swathi Bijoor Devadiga, Jagdish Kavathar from Nigeria, Neha Shriyan, Loku Kudla, Jesh Bayar from UAE, Ravindra Devadiga from UAE, Girish Keshav, Shailesh Devadiga, Vijesh Devadiga, Nilisha Moily and others team members were present during the virtual event.
