Mangaluru: ‘Maintain six feet distance, wear masks or pay fine’ - DC

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Aug 7: Deputy commissioner (DC) of Dakshina Kannada district, Dr K V Rajendra, who also happens to be the district magistrate, has instructed strict implementation of COVID-19 guidelines in the interests of the general public as coronavirus infection is spreading. He said that maintaining minimum six feet distance between persons and wearing of masks are compulsory. Not wearing masks attracts a penalty of Rs 200 in urban areas and Rs 100 in other places, he added.

The DC clarified that ban on large size public meetings and get together stays and in the case of funeral and final rites, the number of people participating should not exceed 20. He pointed out that as per rules and regulations, spitting in the open is a punishable offence. Consumption of liquor, pan, gutkha, tobacco etc in public places are also banned, he mentioned.

For the working class, he said that as far as possible, work from home should be preferred. In shops, offices, markets etc, staff should work on shift basis, he said. Work spaces, common facilities and all things where human contact involved should be often sanitised. This should be ensured even during the period of work on shift basis. The supervisors should confirm that enough distance is maintained between people, in shifts, and during lunch time etc, he said. He warned that those violating the national level directions will attract provisions of Karnataka Epidemic Diseases Ordinance and Disaster Management Act.

DC Sir In reality 6ft distance is little difficult to maintain in all possible spheres. I wonder why the fine differs to urban and suburban areas at Rs 200 and 100 for the same fault of not wearing mask. Is this virus has different power in different areas.

When people are not following 3 ft. distance, how can they maintain 6 ft.? Is it possible. OurDC has to to visit some market places like Hampankatta, Kankanady, Kadri etc. will come to know the situation . Many people are not wearing masks also. Who has to control this? Rules and regulations are not the criterion. Some effective measures be taken to reduce the covid cases. The defaulters should be fine heavily.

Maintaining 3ft distance itself difficult because in any queue if we maintain the distance people will sneak in & stand in front of you. This is our habbit, difficult to get rid of this habbit. If 6 ft distance, then for sure 2 or 3 more people will sneak in the queue to fill the gap by thinking you are not in queue, even though they know the rules, but they will try their luck.
This is public mentality be it educated or uneducated. If you are sincere, innocent & strictly follow rules, you will be there on the same spot for atleast 30 minutes before you realise what is happening....

It depends on how far you can stretch your legs (in car, auto - bus is an exception). One leg in one car/auto, and other in another one so that not another person comes in contact with you. Provided the vehicles move in strictly uniform speed and no 'potholes' come up on your way. Now, don't ask if one has to climb the roof of the vehicle/s to travel.

I appreciate d.c,'s move of imposing fine 4 not keeping physical distancing & 4 not wearing mask . suppose dis is not adhered by da responsible citizens let dem pay heavy fine. d.c's move is highly appreciable.

    Agreed Sir,

Common people will abide by the rules and violators will have to pay fine.

But we see blatant violation of rules by political party leaders in their meetings. Masks are always not covering their mouth and nose when they speak. There is hardly any physical distance. What action has been initiated for this violation? How much fine you have collected ? You take out videos or snaps of political leader's meetings or visits. Even Ministers of Govt are violating without any hesitation.

Are you a mute spectator for all this or should we understand that your hands are tied in this regard?

Sir, physical distancing is not possible for a country with such high population. While corporate offices might be able to do this, I'm not sure all small shop owners would have the liberty or space to do this given that they're already reeling under losses and would try to do anything for a source of livelihood.

You should have ventured out and visited all temples in Mangalore on 5th August.

You could have collected funds in fines, an amount sufficient to build another Pumpwell Bridge.

Why ? Section 144 was for others only ?
