Mangaluru, Aug 3: Rainfall has gained momentum in coastal Karnataka. Both Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts recorded good rains on Sunday August 2.

Light rain continued throughout the day on Sunday with heavy rain in between. A few low lying areas experienced artificial flooding. Almost all the places on the coast got rain on Sunday.

A woman in Mulky was injured after the roof of her house crashed due to strong wind on Sunday afternoon. Sulochana Nair, who owns the house, suffered injuries due to fallen tiles. She stands hospitalised. Her son Suraj Nair, daughter-in-law Jayalaxmi, and two children escaped unhurt. In this case over four lac rupees of loss has been estimated. Officials will be visiting the house today to conduct spot inspection.

The city and Kollur registered eight cm of rainfall each, which was the highest in the state. Most of the places in the coastline recorded between six and seven cm rainfall.

The meteorological department has said that low pressure area is building over the Bay of Bengal and therefore during the next four to five day period commencing August 3, Indian peninsula is expected to experience a strengthened monsoon. The department has issued orange alert in the coast from August 3 to 7. It has also warned the fishermen to stay away from the sea, which is expected to remain turbulent.
