Bengaluru, Jul 31: The meteorological department has predicted heavy downpour accompanied by lightning and thunder in coastal districts of Karnataka from July 31 to August 4. Orange alert has been issued for Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada districts where torrential rainfall is expected.

The coastal areas are experiencing wind with a velocity of 50 km per hour now. Waves up to a height of 3.3 metres are being witnessed in the Arabian Sea. Therefore, fishermen have been advised against venturing into the sea.

Monsoon has been advancing. Chances of heavy rainfall in Bagalkot, Bidar, Dharwad, Kalaburagi, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu and Shivamogga districts on Friday are bright. Yellow alert has been issued for these districts.

Kumta in Uttara Kannada district recorded highest rainfall of 16 cm in the state. Sullia, Agumbe and Dharmasthala got 11, 9, and 8 cm rainfall respectively.

Kalaburagi city and other parts of the district and Raichur districts had good rainfall. There are reports of the rain having thrown normal life out of gear in some districts.
