Congress seeks President's rule in coronavirus-hit Karnataka

Bengaluru, Jul 16 (IANS): The opposition Congress on Thursday sought President's rule in Karnataka, as it said the ruling BJP government failed to tackle the coronavirus pandemic, as cases have been surging daily since July 1.

"It's time the BJP government resigns and allows President's rule in the state, as it is has failed miserably to control the COVID cases, which have been surging daily," party's state unit president DK Shivakumar told reporters here.

Latching on to state Health Minister B Sriramulu's statement on Wednesday that "only God can save Karnataka from the pandemic", Shivakumar said the government's incompetence had left the citizens to god's mercy.

"Why do we need a government, which cannot tackle the pandemic? What Sriramulu said reflects poorly on the BJP government's ability to handle the situation, which appears to be going out of its control due to its incompetence," thundered Shivakumar.

Addressing reporters at Chitradurga in the state's northwest region, Sriramulu had said only God could save the southern state from COVID-19 or the people should be made aware of it to avoid getting infected by violating lockdown guidelines.

"The BJP came to power nearly a year ago after engineering defections from the Congress and Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) and defeating our 14-month-old coalition government in the assembly on July 23, 2019. As it came to power by foul means, its chief minister B S Yediyurappa should resign and let governor Vajubhai Vala run the state to contain the virus spread," asserted Shivakumar.

Noting that the infection does not differentiate between rich and poor, police, doctors, politicians or legislators, Sriramulu said the communicable disease could rise to an alarming level in the ensuing two months, as the cases were rising daily the world over.

"Who can control corona? In the present situation, only God has to save us. Otherwise, people should become aware of its (virus) consequences. If we have made mistakes, we are ready to face punishment for them," said Sriramulu, who is the ruling BJP's legislator from the Molakalmuru reserved assembly segment in this district.

Refuting the opposition Congress charge that the cases were rising in the state due to negligence by ministers, officials and legislators, Sriramulu said Karnataka was performing better than other states till the cases began to steadily rise since unlock began and the people were moving in violation of the guidelines.

DKS or any Congi leader of Ktaka for that matter, should check with HDD or HDK before making such tall statements. For Cong it has to be in the good books of JDS for survival in politics. Such riddiculous statements may not go well with the JDS leadership.

Congress Party can stoop to any level even during pandemic which has troubled the whole world.Congress can claim the dismissal of all Governments all over the world.Highest problem is in Maharastra and it is better for Congress to claim the dismissal in that state.
DKS is dreaming to be CM of Karnataka. It is for the people to decide whom to vote for in next elections. It has power in very few states and struggling to get 50 seats in Parliamentary elections.Congress is in no position to introspect it's failures and lack of leadership. It cannot digest the fact that BJP under the able leadership of PM Modi has won in majority in two consecutive elections.

Now being elected to the party's state unit president DK Shivakumar should be must realise that PM Modi and BJP cannot be beaten at his own game. Rather than attack the prime minister and BJP personally, the Congress leader should take Manmohan Singh's cue and use tempered language.

Rahul Gandhi or DK Shivkumar, irrespective of positions they held, remains among Congress leaders whose utterances are targeted by the BJP and its non-organisational players on social media. It would be prudent to use words that are not personally offensive, yet are sharp and tough to deflect.

Congress leaders must realize that when the intelligentsia is already struggling to shape responses to multiple challenges before society, space exists for tempered language when political leaders trade charges.

Instead of replicating Modi’s template of political criticism, Congress leaders need to provide a counter to all-pervading hype. A model exists in Manmohan Singh’s statement.

The Congress should start asking the questions to the ruling BJP, that it gets right answers. The weightage of the words do need to be carried so that it should reach to the masses exposing the governments failed policies.

By inviting President Rule or Governor rule who are more inclined to the RSS is only benefit BJP rather than Congress in oppostion.

It is a fact that Karnataka unlocked in a big way...
It was also thinking of opening bars, gyms, malls... caring two hoots and neglecting warnings. Pressure, money bags in some cases ( bars, restaurants ) was sought to be exchanged... How much has God knows...
Pressure pulls from everywhere education MAFIA included.SSLC exams too were conducted amidst this pandemic...
Couldn't finf fault with the CM who also gave the go ahead to street vendors eateries and the like on the Pretext of SURVIVAL..
However the worst fears have come true... The virus has spread like wild fire and everybody is taken aback groping for solutions and indeed slowly realising...
JAAN HAI THO JAHAAN HAI... Friends, think it is better to exercise extreme caution before it's too late... Don't go around thinking that I ain't gonna get it... Move cautiosly thinking and being aware you may get it !Enough... And yes... Definitely no Politics Please...

The Governor is a BJP man and will contribute to making matters worse for Karnataka. What the country is witnessing with horror that the PM who promised to tame the pandemic in 23 days has washed of his hands completely of the Pandemic and is busy in toppling opposition ruled states with resort politics in a repeat of what was done in Karnataka. Subverting the will of the people through financial inducements of elected reps and action by central agencies to intimidate.

Modi and Amit Shah just want to save their positions and just dont care about the country.

All politicians should get medical briefings, disciplinary training courses to educate themselves to behave smart in front of public.
Keep the politics away and work for public at least in this situation. Nothing is going to solve by imposing President rule, bureaucracy will shadow all the decisions and nothing will work because most of the Governors can't manage the administration work effectively due to their age and loyalty to different political outfits.
I am in USA and the situation here too very bad. Sudden surge of cases are due to public negligence and don't care attitude. Even at places people did Corona party too mock the Govt. request of following lock down rules..

I agree with the president rule.

The State Govt has lost control of the situation and it is right time to intervene.

There is no co ordination between the ministers and orders are changed now and then.

Some districts are controlled better mainly because of DC's. Their work is also put in waters due to inconsistent orders of State Govt.

Capital city Bengaluru is totally out of control.
