Udupi: Dr TMA Pai Hospital dedicated to handle coronavirus cases, services upgraded

Media Release

Udupi, Jul 6: Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) from April 1 designated Dr TMA Pai Hospital as a dedicated COVID-19 hospital. The hospital was upgraded with tertiary level intensive care facilities and enhanced support for oxygen beds to treat COVID-19 patients in the district. This unique model of public-private cooperation during a public health emergency has been very successful so far and has received recognition from many quarters.

As on June 30, a team of doctors at Dr TMA Pai Hospital treated 202 patients of COVID-19 and discharged 147 of them. The hospital provided free treatment to all the patients in the general isolation wards including ICU, ventilator and dialysis facilities from April 1 to June 30. MAHE has spent Rs 75 lac toward the treatment of these patients including Rs 15 lac toward nutritious food for COVID-19 patients. The hospital also spent Rs 50 lac for up-gradation of facilities and to make the hospital suitable for COVID-19 management.

From July 1, Ayushman Bharath–Arogya Karnataka (AB-ArK) scheme is applicable in the hospital for all eligible COVID-19 patients admitted in the general wards. All other COVID-19 patients who prefer special wards or are ineligible for AB-ArK will come under the payment category as per the Karnataka government order HFW 228 ACS 2020 dated June 23.

The hospital continues to provide high-quality care for COVID-19 patients until other hospitals, including private hospitals, in the district, are ready to manage COVID-19 patients.
