Daijiworld Media Network- Mangaluru (AJD)

Mangaluru, Jul 1: In a tragic story that has surfaced, a seven-day-old newborn baby boy was reported to have been infected by the coronavirus. It is believed that the infant may have contracted the infection from someone who is likely to also have been infected with the virus.

As per reports, the baby was born a week ago at a private hospital. He is currently undergoing treatment at a designated COVID hospital.

Earlier an eight-year-old kid also tested positive for the virus. There have been cases in the city where the source of the infection among minors still remains unknown.

As of now, an increase in the rate of infection among young and the elderly have been observed.

I couldn't understand the sentence, "It is believed that the infant may have contracted the infection from someone who is likely to also have been infected with the virus."

Is there possibility of getting infected from a person who is not infected?

Community spread is going out of control, it's high time for the administration authority to lockdown totally for 15 days, by giving 2 days advance notice. Not even grocery or any other essential requirement shops except medical stores should be kept open.
Only Hospital staff with valid I. D. card should be allowed.
Strict action should be taken for those going against the order.
I feel some breaking the chain can happen.
Please stay home and stay safe.

Infants and children will have no problem, apart from producing antibodies they have a good capacity to produce T cells which can kill the virus. The other possibility is that the report is false positive. Anyway he will recover and all of us wish him a speedy recovery and lots of immunity.

I wish that were true - that it doesn't matter to children and infants, and will only have the salutary effect of producing antibodies in their bloodstream. Children have been known to die of COVID - 19. Not many - it's true and thank God for that. But instances are now cropping up of children with COVID- 19 developing a serious infection - Kawasaki Disease. Or, to be precise, a Kawasaki-like syndrome. There have been cases right here in India. And that can prove fatal. Further, since this is a novel virus, we have no idea what the long term effects might be. The Spanish flu was linked to an increased incidence of Parkinson's Disease in its victims in their later years....

I agree with you that more and more cases of Kawasaki syndrome are seen in children affected by Corona, more so in the West, it is difficult to treat but if diagnosed can be treated with aspirin and immunoglobulin.Immunoglobulin is useful in the treatment of corona, I had written about convalescent plasma and immunoglobulin for corona to many concerned people all over the world way back in February, including our PM and ICMR,they have followed it up and results are encouraging. I see light at the end of the tunnel, but the tunnel seems to be very long!!

If mother infected also no problem both will recover soon... i heard Hospitals separate small babies with their mothers during treatment..its wrong.
